Guion Bluford (born November 22, 1942) He was the very first African-American astronaut to fly into space! He made history on August 30, 1983. * Missions: STS-8 (1983), STS-61-A (1985), STS-39 (1991), STS-53 (1992)
Ronald McNair (born October 21, 1950; died January 28, 1986) Ron was the first Baháʼí in space. Sadly, he passed away during the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in 1986. * Missions: STS-41-B (1984), STS-51-L (1986)
Frederick D. Gregory (born January 7, 1941) He was the first African American to pilot and command a Space Shuttle mission. He even served as the acting head of NASA for a while in 2005. * Missions: STS-51-B (1985), STS-33 (1989), STS-44 (1991)

Some amazing individuals trained to be astronauts but did not get to fly into space. Their contributions were still very important!
Robert Henry Lawrence Jr. (born October 2, 1935; died December 8, 1967) He was the very first African-American astronaut ever selected for training in 1967. Sadly, he passed away in an aircraft accident before he could fly.
Livingston L. Holder Jr. (born September 29, 1956) He was a U.S. Air Force astronaut in a special program.

Michael Belt was an astronaut and payload specialist for a U.S. Army project. He trained for nine months as a backup for a Space Shuttle mission.
