This is a list of English cricketers who played first-class cricket between the 1772 and 1786 English cricket seasons. This covers the time from the first matches officially called "first-class" in 1772, right up to when the famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) was formed in 1787. During this period, 67 first-class matches were played.
Cricket during these years started to look a lot more like the game we know today. However, players still bowled underarm until the 1800s. The first official Laws of Cricket were made in 1744. Then, in 1774, some new rules were added, including Leg before wicket (LBW), which is a way a batter can get out. Also, the third stump was added to the wickets after 1775.
Cricket scorecards became much more detailed from 1772 onwards. The players listed here are those known to have played in these important matches between 1772 and 1786.
