Liv and Maddie is a fun American comedy TV show made by John D. Beck and Ron Hart. It was shown on Disney Channel from July 19, 2013, to March 24, 2017. The show stars Dove Cameron, Joey Bragg, Tenzing Norgay Trainor, Kali Rocha, Benjamin King, and Lauren Lindsey Donzis.

A cool part of the show is that Dove Cameron plays two characters! She plays Liv, an actress who comes home after being a star in Hollywood for four years. She also plays Maddie, Liv's identical twin sister who stayed home. Another special thing about the show is that characters sometimes talk directly to the audience. They explain what they are thinking about different situations in each episode.

Liv Rooney

Olivia "Liv" Rooney (Dove Cameron) is one of the identical twin sisters in the Rooney family. She is the oldest child and big sister to Joey and Parker. Liv left home at age 11 to star in a famous TV show called "Sing It Loud!". She often talks about her time on that show. Liv was living with her Aunt Dena while she was acting.

Liv is a sophomore (which means she's in 10th grade) at Ridgewood High. When Liv and Maddie had their sweet sixteen party, their mom, Karen, said Liv was born six minutes before Maddie. Liv's siblings sometimes call her "Hollywood" because she's a famous actress.

After the first season, Liv started working on a movie called "Space Werewolves." It was based on a graphic novel series. Liv played the main character, Tristan Lycanth. Even though Tristan was a boy in the books, Liv got the part because she was so good at acting.

Liv also starred in a TV show called "Voltage." She played a cheerleader named Tess who became a superhero called SkyVolt after being struck by lightning. Later, Liv decided to leave "Voltage" to be with Maddie. This made it hard for her to find new acting jobs. But she eventually got a guest role on a show called "Linda and Heather." By the end of the show, she was asked to be in a sequel to "Sing It Loud!" called "Sing It Louder!!".

A person named Emmy Buckner was Liv's look-alike double for the show.

Maddie Rooney

Madison "Maddie" Rooney (Dove Cameron) is Liv's identical twin sister. She is the second oldest child in the Rooney family and also a sophomore at Ridgewood High. Maddie is the captain of the girls' basketball team at Ridgewood High. She works very hard at basketball and her schoolwork.

Maddie's main boyfriend was Diggie, who was the captain of the boys' basketball team. But he moved around a lot, so they broke up. Her new boyfriend was Josh, who was Liv's co-star on "Voltage." Maddie's special saying is "Bam! What?!". She came up with it when she was 11 after beating the boys in basketball. Diggie and Willow sometimes call her "Mads."

Maddie loves basketball, but she hurt her leg once and couldn't play. She tried pottery as a new hobby, but it didn't work out, and she went back to basketball. Her mom, Karen, even tried to help Maddie get over her fear of using her injured knee with hypnotherapy. Maddie also temporarily taught Parker's karate class. Eventually, Maddie fully recovered from her knee injury and played basketball again.

A person named Shelby Wulfert was Maddie's look-alike double for the show.

Joey Rooney

Joseph Gilligan "Joey" Rooney (Joey Bragg) is the middle child of the Rooney family. He is the brother of Liv and Maddie, and older brother to Parker. Joey is a student at Ridgewood High. Parker sometimes calls him "munch."

Even though he's close in age to his twin sisters, Joey is a year younger in school. He is often seen as a bit awkward and not very grown-up, but he is also very smart. Joey and his younger brother Parker are close and often play pranks or try to trick people. Joey is also rivals with a classmate named Artie.

Later in the series, Joey started to like Willow, and they eventually became boyfriend and girlfriend.

Parker Rooney

Parker Rooney (Tenzing Norgay Trainor) is the youngest child in the Rooney family. He is 13 years old and in sixth grade. Parker is a very smart and clever kid. He does karate and is good at getting what he wants.

Parker even built his own secret tunnels that go to different parts of his house, Ridgewood High, and other places! He's not really a bad kid, but he likes to play tricks. For example, he once tricked Joey into giving him money to buy an expensive toy.

Parker also loves a show called "Linda and Heather." His karate friends, Splat and Reggie, watch it with him too. In the final season, Parker's tunnels collapsed, and the family had to move in with Aunt Dena. Parker then planned to build his projects in the sky instead!

Karen Rooney

Karen Rooney (Kali Rocha) is Pete's wife and the mother of Liv, Maddie, Joey, and Parker. She is also Dena Rooney's older sister. Karen works as the school psychologist at Ridgewood High. Later, she becomes the vice principal. Karen often tries to use her knowledge about families at home, sometimes holding family meetings or using "punching pillows."

Karen kept a secret that Liv and Maddie were born on different days because Liv was born just before midnight and Maddie just after. Karen also tends to keep a lot of old things, like a box of old toothbrushes! She also has a habit of chomping on ice when she's nervous.

Pete Rooney

Pete Rooney (Benjamin King) is Karen's husband and the father of Liv, Maddie, Joey, and Parker. He is the gym teacher at Ridgewood High and coaches the girls' basketball team. Pete loves to make things a competition at home. He often wears his whistle and pushes Maddie to get better at basketball.

Pete acts like a typical dad. He sometimes doesn't understand his daughters' feelings. He also shares his sons' creative ideas and can be very protective when Liv and Maddie have boyfriends. Pete and Karen sometimes disagree, like when he wants to get rid of old house decorations that Karen wants to keep.

Later, Pete became the coach of a college team in Beloit, Wisconsin. Maddie later decided to go to that college. Because of his new job, Mrs. Snodgrass took over coaching the girls' basketball team. In the last season, Pete was no longer a regular character. He was said to be overseeing the rebuilding of the Rooney home while working in Beloit.

Ruby

Ruby (Lauren Lindsey Donzis) is the 11-year-old cousin of the Rooney children. She is Dena's daughter and lives in California. Ruby is younger than Parker and wants to become an actress, just like Liv. She joined the show as a regular character in the fourth season.

Other Important Characters

Diggie

Digbert "Diggie" Smalls (Ryan McCartan) was Maddie's main boyfriend. He was the captain of the boys' basketball team at Ridgewood High. Diggie is seen as confident and strong. He often calls Maddie "Rooney."

Diggie told Maddie how he felt about her when she thought she was moving. He also helped Joey learn how to be "cool." Diggie used to manage the local frozen yogurt shop. He left Wisconsin to go to a place called "Tundrabania" after Maddie hurt her knee. He later returned but broke up with Maddie because he thought she didn't support his trip to Australia.

It was later revealed that Diggie is Artie's older brother. Diggie still had feelings for Maddie and wanted to get back together. They officially broke up, but later, Diggie returned and saw Maddie with Josh, which made him jealous. Eventually, Maddie and Diggie got back together. In the final episode, when Maddie got a grant to build tiny houses in New Orleans, Diggie decided to go with her. He said he just wanted to be with her.

Willow

Winifred "Willow" Cruz (Jessica Marie Garcia) is Maddie's best friend and teammate. She plays center on the basketball team and often says she doesn't give up. She and Maddie have a special high-five. Willow's only weakness is her huge crush on Joey.

Later in the series, Willow played drums in a band with Liv, Andie, and Holden. They won a battle of the bands and kept performing together. Willow and Joey eventually became official boyfriend and girlfriend.

Stains

Astrid "Stains" Stanislowski (Bridget Shergalis) is a teammate and friend of Maddie's. She is a small girl who loves to eat. She got her nickname because her clothes often get dirty in the episodes she's in. She also has a habit of rubbing the side of her nose with her thumb when she's part of a plan.

Evan

Evan (Carter Hastings) is one of Parker's friends from his karate class. Evan is very polite but sometimes says things that are too honest. His mom is seen as a bit too protective. Evan is a year younger than Parker. They often get into tricky situations, and Parker usually helps Evan out. Evan also helped Karen try to "reprogram" Parker when Parker was pretending to be helpless to avoid chores.

Johnny Nimbus

Johnny Nimbus (Kurt Long) is the local TV weatherman. He often hosts different events around town. Johnny is known for getting the weather forecast wrong! He later started dating Gemma. Johnny Nimbus and Gemma got married.

Artie

Artie Smalls (Jimmy Bellinger) is a classmate of Joey's and his self-proclaimed enemy. They often compete to see who is smarter, and Joey usually loses. However, they have worked together before. Artie has some unnamed student followers who act as his "minions."

Artie has a crush on Joey's famous sister, Liv. He is also a big fan of sci-fi (science fiction). It was revealed that Artie is Diggie's brother. Liv once turned down Artie's invitation to a dance, but later changed her mind so that Willow could go with Joey. Artie even has a kitten named after Liv!

Andie

Andie Bustamante (Victoria Moroles) is a friend Liv makes in the second season. She plays the bass in a band with Liv, Willow, and Holden.

Andie liked Holden and asked him to prom. They started dating. However, Holden later broke up with Andie because he realized he liked Liv. Liv didn't want to date Holden because of her friendship with Andie. Liv helped Andie get over her breakup. Andie later showed interest in a character named Dump Truck.

Dump Truck

Marion "Dump Truck" Truckberg (Shak Ghacha) is a student at Ridgewood High who Parker met in detention. He first told Parker to do his cleaning for him. But after Parker scraped gum off all the desks, Dump Truck gained respect for Parker and became his friend. He even nicknamed Parker "Gumball Machine."

It was revealed that Dump Truck couldn't ride a bike, but Parker later taught him how to.

Holden

Holden (Jordan Fisher) was Liv's main boyfriend. He came back from boarding school. At first, Liv didn't like him because he stole her special pen when they were younger. But he later admitted he only took it because he had a crush on her. Liv started to like him a lot.

Holden went to prom with Liv's friend Andie and they started dating. Liv, Willow, Holden, and Andie started a band together called "The Dream." Holden later realized he had feelings for Liv and broke up with Andie on live television. Liv and Holden admitted their feelings for each other, but Liv didn't want to start a relationship because of her friendship with Andie.

Eventually, Liv and Holden became a couple after Andie told Liv she no longer had feelings for him. However, Liv and Holden later broke up.

Gemma

Gemma (Chloé Wepper) is the TV director of "Voltage." Liv thought she was a cooler version of Joey. Gemma later started dating Johnny Nimbus and they got married.

Josh

Josh Wilcox (Lucas Adams) was Liv's co-star in Voltage. He played Tess's boyfriend Garrison. When Liv quit the show, Josh became the new Skyvolt.

Josh later developed a crush on Maddie and they started dating. They went on their first date, and Josh liked Maddie's competitive side. However, Liv was mistaken for Maddie in a photo with Josh, which made Diggie jealous. Maddie and Josh broke up after Diggie sang about his feelings for Maddie. Josh still loved Maddie, which made him lose confidence. Later, he and Maddie became friends again.

Dena

Dena (Jolie Jenkins) is Ruby's mother, Karen's sister, and the aunt of Liv, Maddie, Joey, and Parker.

Val

Val Wishart (Chloe East) is a girl who goes to BOOMS and is Parker's girlfriend. She and Parker went to prom and then to the Chemistry Challenge together.

Special Guest Stars

Bernard

Bernard (Dwight Howard) was Joey's personal trainer for a short time. He was very good at basketball. Maddie decided to team up with him instead of her dad, Pete, for a basketball tournament. Pete felt left out and teamed up with Diggie. Bernard and Diggie ended up winning the tournament.

Fangs

Emmy "Fangs" Wulfert (Laura Marano) was a teenage "wolf girl." She was raised by wolves after getting lost when she was little. She wrote a book about her experiences and still had some wolf-like traits. Fangs looked dirty and messy, with fake claws and no shoes.

Liv invited Fangs to help her learn how to act like a wolf for her audition for the "Space Werewolves" movie. Fangs helped Liv master her howling.

Q-Pop

Q-Pop (Kel Mitchell) is a hip-hop dance instructor. Maddie and Diggie decided to try hip-hop dancing. When Joey showed interest, Maddie told him to take the class instead. Maddie later felt left out, so all three of them took lessons together.

Vic DeFazerelli

Vic DeFazerelli (Garry Marshall) was a famous director who won three Oscars. He was hired to direct Liv in the "Space Werewolves" movie.

Kathy Kan

Kathy Kan (Piper Curda) is a Korean pop star. She came to Wisconsin to get ready for the Korean version of "Sing It Loud!". She quickly became good friends with Liv.

Mr. Clodfelter

Mr. Clodfelter (Kevin James) was Maddie's Home Economics teacher. When Maddie was failing his class, she had to make up her grades. Mr. Clodfelter said she could improve if she beat his best student, Artie, in a cooking competition. Maddie eventually passed by creating a "Snackatorium."

Krahgg

Craig "Krahgg" (Cameron Boyce) was Liv and Maddie's cousin. He was invited to the Ridgewood High prom because Maddie didn't have a date. He was an illusionist who called himself "Krahgg the Insidious," but all his magic tricks failed.

Andy Grammer

Andy Grammer performed at the annual Stevens Point music festival.

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell appeared as herself in an episode.

Brandon Crawford appeared as himself in an episode.

Nancy O'Dell

Nancy O'Dell appeared as herself and interviewed Liv. She later mistook Maddie for Liv when she saw her with Josh.
