List of New York City Designated Landmarks in Staten Island facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) was created in 1965. It's a special group in New York City's government that helps protect important buildings and places. Since it started, the LPC has named over a thousand landmarks. These landmarks fall into four main types: individual buildings, parts of buildings (like a fancy lobby), beautiful outdoor areas, and historic neighborhoods.

Staten Island has many of these special places. Some are also recognized as National Historic Landmarks, which means they are important to the whole country! This list shows some of these amazing spots.

Historic Neighborhoods: Stepping Back in Time

Historic districts are like entire neighborhoods that have been kept special because of their unique history and architecture. Walking through them is like taking a trip back in time!
