Have you ever wondered who leads the main part of Poland's parliament? That person is called the Marshal of the Sejm. The Sejm is like the "House of Representatives" in Poland, where laws are made. Early Sejm Leaders: Crown of Poland (1400s-1500s)
The Sejm started meeting regularly a long time ago, in the late 1400s. During this time, Poland was known as the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland. The Marshal's job was important even then, helping to guide discussions and decisions.

The Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (1569–1795)
After 1569, Poland joined with Lithuania to form a huge country called the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. This was a very long period in history, and many different people served as the Marshal of the Sejm. Their job was to lead the parliament and help the country make important decisions.
Poland Under Partition (1795–1918)
For a long time, from 1795 to 1918, Poland was divided up and controlled by other countries. This period is known as the Partitioned Poland. Even during this time, there were still some local parliaments or "diets" in different parts of Poland, and they had their own leaders.
Duchy of Warsaw Marshals
The Duchy of Warsaw was a small Polish state created by Napoleon for a short time. It also had its own leaders for its parliament.

Diet of Galicia and Lodomeria Marshals

Second Polish Republic (1918–1939)

Polish People's Republic (1947–1989)
