The United States ambassador to India is the most important diplomat representing the United States in India. This person works to keep a good relationship between the two countries. The U.S. ambassador's office is located at the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.

On March 15, 2023, Eric Garcetti was chosen to be the ambassador. He officially started his job on March 24, 2023. He presented his official papers to President Droupadi Murmu on May 11, 2023.

U.S. Ambassadors to India (1947–1950)

India became independent in 1947. Before that, in 1792, President George Washington appointed Benjamin Joy as the first American Consul to Calcutta (now Kolkata). This was a much earlier role.
