Have you ever wondered how decisions are made for many countries in Europe? The European Parliament is a big group of people from different countries who work together to make laws and decisions for the European Union. Each country sends people to represent them. These representatives are called Members of the European Parliament, or MEPs for short.

This page lists the MEPs who represented the United Kingdom in the European Parliament from 2009 to 2014. They were chosen in the 2009 European Parliament election.

What is the European Parliament?

The European Parliament is like a big meeting place for countries in Europe. It helps make rules for things like trade, the environment, and human rights across the European Union. People from each country vote for their MEPs. These MEPs then go to the Parliament to speak for their country.

UK Members of the European Parliament (2009-2014)

The United Kingdom had many MEPs during the 2009-2014 period. These people worked to represent the UK's interests. They were part of different political parties and groups.

Understanding the Tables

The tables below show you who the UK MEPs were. Here's what each column means:

  • Name: This is the name of the MEP.
  • Constituency: This is the area in the UK that the MEP represented. Think of it like their home region.
  • National Party: This is the political party they belonged to in the United Kingdom.
  • EP Group: This is the larger political group they joined in the European Parliament. MEPs from different countries often team up if they have similar ideas.
