List of tallest buildings in Memphis facts for kids
Memphis, Tennessee, is a cool city in the United States, and like many cities, it has some really tall buildings! This article will tell you all about the tallest buildings in Memphis, both the ones that are already built and some exciting new ones that are coming soon.
The very tallest building in Memphis is the 100 North Main building. It stands super tall at 430 feet (131 meters) and was built way back in 1965. For a while, another building called the Sterick Building, built in 1930, was the tallest in the entire Southern United States! The first skyscraper in Memphis was the Dr. D.T. Porter Building, which was 131 feet (40 meters) tall and built in 1895.
Even though Memphis is a big city, it hasn't had as many new super-tall buildings built recently compared to some other cities like Atlanta or Nashville. This means Memphis has a unique skyline with many historic buildings. You'll find some of the tallest buildings in the downtown area, but also a few in the fancy East Memphis neighborhood, like the Clark Tower and the Hilton Memphis.
There are some exciting new projects happening in Memphis! The 100 North Main building, which is currently empty, is getting a huge makeover. There are also plans for new hotels and other tall buildings, like the One Beale Street project and new developments in the Pinch District and "The Walk on Union" area.
