Little Ethiopia is a lively neighborhood in the middle of Los Angeles. It's famous for its many Ethiopian restaurants, coffee shops, and unique stores. It's a great place to explore Ethiopian culture!
History of Little Ethiopia
This special neighborhood started in the early 1990s. Many people from Ethiopia and Eritrea live here. They also own lots of businesses and restaurants.
At first, in the 1990s, people called it "Little Addis." This was a nod to Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. In 2002, the city of Los Angeles officially named it "Little Ethiopia." By 2006, there were 15 Ethiopian businesses here. These included places to eat, markets, clothing stores, and even a travel agency.
Where is Little Ethiopia?
Little Ethiopia is found on Fairfax Avenue. It is located between Olympic Boulevard and Whitworth Drive.
To the west is the Carthay Square neighborhood. Wilshire Vista is to the east. You can find Faircrest Heights to the southwest. Picfair Village is to the southeast. And Miracle Mile is to the northeast.
