The Little Harpeth River is a small river in Tennessee. It's about 16.3-mile-long (26.2 km), which is like a 26-kilometer journey. This river is a "tributary," meaning it's a smaller stream that flows into a bigger one. The Little Harpeth flows into the Harpeth River.

The Little Harpeth River is located just south of Nashville. It's part of a much larger river system. Its waters eventually join the Cumberland River, then the Ohio River, and finally the mighty Mississippi River. This means the Little Harpeth is part of the huge Mississippi River watershed, which drains a large part of the central United States!

Where the River Begins and Flows

The Little Harpeth River starts its journey in Williamson County, Tennessee. It begins near a community called Clovercroft. From there, it flows mostly north and northwest.

Journey Through Brentwood

As the river continues, it enters a busy area. This is the Nashville suburb of Brentwood. The Little Harpeth River helps drain a lot of this area. It even flows right across a golf course that belongs to the local country club. After passing through Brentwood, the river changes direction. It starts flowing more towards the west and northwest.

Passing Through Parks and Into the Harpeth

The Little Harpeth River then crosses into Davidson County. Here, it flows past Edwin Warner Park. This park is one of the biggest city parks in the Southern United States. The river adds a beautiful touch to the park, flowing near some of its picnic areas.

Finally, the Little Harpeth River flows into the main Harpeth River. People sometimes call the main Harpeth River the "Big Harpeth." This meeting point is near the Bellevue area of Nashville.

River Friends: Tributaries

The Little Harpeth River has its own smaller rivers that flow into it. These are called its "tributaries." Its main tributaries are Beech Creek and Otter Creek. Otter Creek is special because it forms a lake called Radnor Lake. This lake is the main feature of the Radnor Lake State Natural Area. It's a great place to see nature!
