The Little Misema River is a small but important river located in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It flows through two different areas, the Timiskaming District and the Cochrane District. This river is part of a much larger water system, the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin, which means its water eventually flows into the huge Saint Lawrence River. The Little Misema River is a "left tributary" of the Misema River, meaning it joins the Misema River from the left side when looking downstream.

Where Does the Little Misema River Start and End?

The River's Journey

The Little Misema River begins its journey at Little Misema Lake. This lake is about 1.0 kilometer (0.6 miles) long and sits at an elevation of 333 meters (1,093 feet) above sea level. The lake is found in a place called Ben Nevis Township, which is in the Cochrane District.

Interestingly, Little Misema Lake is also located in the Pushkin Hills. These hills are part of a very old and large volcanic area known as the Blake River Megacaldera Complex.

From Lake to River

The river flows out of Little Misema Lake towards the east. From there, it travels southwest, crossing into the Timiskaming District. Its journey ends when it reaches its mouth at Misema Lake. This lake is part of the larger Misema River system and is located in Katrine Township.

Part of a Bigger Water System

The water from the Little Misema River, after joining the Misema River, continues its long trip. It flows into the Blanche River, then into the Ottawa River, and finally reaches the mighty Saint Lawrence River. This shows how even a small river like the Little Misema plays a role in a vast network of waterways across Canada.
