Livingston is a small village located in Madison County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 763 people lived there. This number was a bit lower than in 2010, when 858 people called Livingston home.

History of Livingston

Livingston began to grow around 1904. This happened because a new railroad was built nearby. Also, a mine opened in the area, which brought more people and jobs. The village was planned out by the family of a person named John Livingston.

Geography of Livingston

Livingston is in the northeastern part of Madison County. It is located at 38°58′2″N 89°45′45″W / 38.96722°N 89.76250°W / 38.96722; -89.76250. The village of Williamson is just north of Livingston.

A major highway, Interstate 55, runs through the southeastern edge of Livingston. You can get on or off the highway at Exit 37, which is the New Douglas Road exit. If you drive southwest on I-55 for about 37 miles (60 km), you will reach St. Louis. If you head north for about 58 miles (93 km), you will get to Springfield, which is the capital city of Illinois.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that Livingston covers a total area of about 1.05 square miles (2.73 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water. Water from the village flows south into small streams that lead to Silver Creek. Silver Creek then flows into the Kaskaskia River.
