Samuel Lloyd Haynes (born September 19, 1934 – died January 1, 1987) was an American actor. He is best known for his main role in the TV show Room 222. This show even won an Emmy Award!

About Lloyd Haynes
Lloyd Haynes was born in South Bend, Indiana. Before becoming an actor, he served in the U.S. Marines. He was a Marine from 1952 to 1964. During this time, he was part of the Korean War.
After his time in the Marines, he became an officer in the Naval Reserve. He held the rank of Commander. Lloyd Haynes also went to San Jose State University.
His Acting Career Begins
After his military service, Lloyd Haynes decided to study acting. He took classes at the Film Industries Workshop and Actors West in Los Angeles. Soon, he started getting roles in movies and TV shows.
He appeared in films like Madigan (1968) and Ice Station Zebra (1968). He also acted in Assault on the Wayne (1971) and The Greatest (1977).
TV Roles and Star Trek
Lloyd Haynes was in many popular TV series. You might know shows like Batman and The Green Hornet. He also appeared in The Fugitive and The FBI.
He even played a character named Alden in an early Star Trek episode. This was the pilot episode called "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (1965). However, he was later replaced by Nichelle Nichols as Lt. Uhura when the show officially began.
Starring in Room 222
Lloyd Haynes became most famous for his role as Pete Dixon. He played a high school history teacher in the TV series Room 222. This show was a comedy-drama.
He starred alongside Denise Nicholas, Michael Constantine, and Karen Valentine. Both Lloyd Haynes and Karen Valentine were nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award for their acting in the show.
The show was set at a fictional school called Walt Whitman High School. It showed a diverse area of Los Angeles. Room 222 ran for five seasons on ABC, from 1969 to 1974. Parts of the show were filmed at Los Angeles High School.
His Later Years and Passing
Lloyd Haynes continued acting throughout his life. He was even co-starring in the TV soap opera General Hospital as Mayor Ken Morgan. He was still working right up until his death.
Sadly, Lloyd Haynes passed away on January 1, 1987. He was 52 years old. He died from lung cancer in Coronado, California. He was survived by his wife, Carolyn Inglis, and their daughter, Jessica Haynes. He was buried at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, California.
His Life Outside Work
Beyond acting, Lloyd Haynes had another interesting passion. He was a skilled pilot of light airplanes. He even created a special program to help and train minority groups in aviation. He wanted to encourage more people to learn how to fly.
Lloyd Haynes was married three times. He had a daughter named Jessica Haynes with his third wife, Carolyn Inglis.
