Lorenzo Lemuel Carter (born December 10, 1995) is an American former professional football player. He was a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for seven seasons. He played for the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons. Carter played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs. The Giants chose him in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. He announced his retirement from the NFL in July 2025.

Early Life and High School Football
Lorenzo Carter grew up playing football. He went to Norcross High School and played on their football team. After his senior year in 2013, he was named to the USA Today All-USA High School Football Team. This meant he was one of the best high school players in the country. Many top colleges wanted him to play for them. He decided to play college football at Georgia.
College Football Career
Carter played college football at the University of Georgia. He played for coaches Mark Richt and Kirby Smart. In his first year, he played in 13 games and started 5 of them. He even won an award for being a great newcomer to the team.
After the 2016 season, many people thought he would join the NFL early. But Carter chose to stay at Georgia for his senior year. During his time at Georgia, he played in 54 games. He made 166 tackles, which means he stopped the player with the ball many times. He also had 14 sacks, which is when he tackled the opposing team's quarterback. In 2017, he was named Second Team All-Southeastern Conference. This showed he was one of the best players in his college league.
Professional Football Career
Joining the NFL
Before the NFL draft, Lorenzo Carter showed off his skills at the NFL Scouting Combine. This is where college players do different tests to show how fast and strong they are. Carter did very well in these tests. He was one of the top players among those who rush the passer. Experts thought he would be picked early in the draft.
The New York Giants chose Lorenzo Carter in the third round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was the 66th player picked overall. He was the eighth linebacker chosen that year.
Playing for the New York Giants
Carter signed a contract with the Giants in May 2018. In his first season, he quickly made an impact. In Week 3, he got his first professional sack against the Houston Texans.
In 2019, Carter continued to play well. In a game against the New England Patriots, he forced a fumble from quarterback Tom Brady. His teammate recovered the ball and scored a touchdown. Carter finished that season with 4.5 sacks, which was the second-highest on his team.
In 2020, Carter was a starting player for the Giants. However, in Week 5, he got a serious injury to his Achilles tendon. This injury meant he could not play for the rest of the season. He worked hard to recover. In Week 5 of the 2021 season, he got his first career interception against the Dallas Cowboys.
Playing for the Atlanta Falcons
In March 2022, Carter signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons. He quickly made a big play in Week 2. A teammate blocked a punt, and Carter picked up the ball. He ran it all the way to the endzone for a special teams touchdown! Later that season, in Week 8, he got another big play. He intercepted a pass from the Carolina Panthers quarterback and ran it back for a touchdown. This is called a "pick-six."
Carter started all 17 games for the Falcons in the 2022 season. He had 58 tackles, 4 sacks, and 2 touchdowns. In March 2023, he signed a new two-year contract with the Falcons. During the 2023 season, he played in all 17 games. He had 35 tackles and 3 sacks. He also recovered two fumbles, which was his best in a single season.
Retirement from Football
In March 2025, Carter signed with the Tennessee Titans. However, in July 2025, Lorenzo Carter announced that he was retiring from the NFL. He finished his career after seven seasons.
