Lotte Verbeek is an actress, dancer, and model from the Netherlands. She was born on June 24, 1982. Many people know her for playing Giulia Farnese in the TV show The Borgias. She also played Geillis Duncan in the popular series Outlander.
Early Life and Learning
Lotte Verbeek grew up in Venlo, a city in the Netherlands. She went to Gymnasium Collegium Marianum in Venlo for high school. Later, she studied at the Theaterschool in Amsterdam, graduating in 2008.
Before that, from 1999, Lotte also studied dance. She attended the Dance Academy in Arnhem and the Amsterdam Academy of Jazz/Musical Theatre and Dance. She finished her dance studies in 2006. Lotte also took singing lessons to improve her voice. While she was a student, she worked as a dancer and a model for a photographer named Erwin Olaf.
Acting Career
After finishing her studies, Lotte Verbeek started acting in Dutch movies. She played main characters in films like Moes (2006) and LEFT (2007). In LEFT, she even played five different characters!
Lotte also performed on stage as an actress. She was in a play called Maria Magdalena by Wayne Traub. This play traveled around Europe in 2009. Lotte can sing in a high voice, known as a soprano.
In 2009, Lotte won an important award for her acting. She received the Leopard for best actress at the Locarno International Film Festival. This was for her role as Anne in the Dutch movie Nothing Personal. The movie was directed by Urszula Antoniak. For the same role, she also won the best actress award at the International Film Festival of Marrakech in 2009. She was also nominated for the Golden Calf, which is a big film award in the Netherlands.
In 2010, Lotte Verbeek was given the Shooting Stars Award. This award is for new, talented actors in Europe. She received it at the Berlin International Film Festival. That same year, she was cast in an Italian mini-series called Le Ragazze dello Swing (The Swing Girls). This series was about the Trio Lescano, a famous singing group. Lotte played one of the main roles, Judith Leschan. For this part, she won a Golden Nymph award for best actress in 2011.

From 2011 to 2013, Lotte played Giulia Farnese in the TV show The Borgias. This historical drama was shown on Showtime. She acted alongside Jeremy Irons, who played Pope Alexander VI. The show was created by Neil Jordan and filmed in Budapest.
In 2012, Lotte took on a double role in the movie Suspension of Disbelief. She played two twins named Therese and Angelique. The movie was written and directed by Mike Figgis.
In 2014, Lotte started playing Geillis Duncan in the TV show Outlander on Starz. This role made her even more well-known. She was also cast as Helena in the movie The Last Witch Hunter, where she acted with Vin Diesel.
On October 9, 2015, it was announced at the New York Comic Con that Lotte Verbeek would join the cast of Agent Carter. She played Ana Jarvis, the wife of Edwin Jarvis, in the second season of the show.
In 2016, she joined the TV series The Blacklist. She played the character Katarina Rostova. Lotte appeared in several episodes of the show between 2016 and 2021.
