Lotte Verbeek is an actress, dancer, and model from the Netherlands. She was born on June 24, 1982. You might know her from her roles as Giulia Farnese in the TV series The Borgias. She also played Geillis Duncan in the popular show Outlander.

Early Life and Education

Lotte Verbeek grew up in Venlo, a city in the Netherlands. She went to a special high school called Gymnasium Collegium Marianum there. Later, she studied at the Theaterschool in Amsterdam, graduating in 2008.

Before her acting studies, Lotte also trained a lot in dance. She attended the Dance Academy in Arnhem and the Amsterdam Academy of Jazz/Musical Theatre and Dance. She finished her dance studies in 2006. Lotte also took singing lessons and attended voice workshops. While she was a student, she worked as a dancer and model for photographer Erwin Olaf.

Acting Career

After finishing high school, Lotte started her acting career. She played main roles in Dutch movies like Moes (2006) and LEFT (2007). In LEFT, she played five different characters!

In 2009, Lotte won an important award for best actress at the Locarno International Film Festival. This was for her role as Anne in the Dutch movie Nothing Personal. She also won the best actress award at the International Film Festival of Marrakech in 2009 for the same role. She was also nominated for the Golden Calf, a top Dutch film award.

In 2010, Lotte received the Shooting Stars Award. This award is given to new, promising actors by European Film Promotion. She received it at the Berlin International Film Festival. That same year, she was cast in Le Ragazze dello Swing (The Swing Girls). This was an Italian mini-series that won awards. It was based on the true story of the Trio Lescano. For her main role as Judith Leschan, she won a Golden Nymph award for best actress in 2011.

From 2011 to 2013, Lotte played Giulia Farnese in the TV show The Borgias. This show was about a powerful family in history. She acted alongside Jeremy Irons, who played Pope Alexander VI. The series was created by Neil Jordan and filmed in Budapest.

Lotte also performed as a stage actress. In 2009, she was in a play called Maria Magdalena. This play toured around Europe. Lotte sings in a high voice, called a soprano.

In 2014, she started playing Geillis Duncan in the TV show Outlander. This show is very popular. She was also cast as Helena in the movie The Last Witch Hunter, acting with Vin Diesel.

On October 9, 2015, it was announced at the New York Comic Con that Lotte would play Ana Jarvis. Ana Jarvis is the wife of Edwin Jarvis in season 2 of the TV series Agent Carter.
