Luís Boa Morte Pereira was born on August 4, 1977. He is a Portuguese football coach and a former professional player. He played mainly as an attacking winger, but also as a forward or midfielder. Currently, he is an assistant coach for Samsunspor.
Boa Morte started his football journey in the youth teams of Sporting CP in Portugal. He then moved to England in 1997 to play for Premier League club Arsenal. He also played for other top English teams like Southampton, Fulham, and West Ham United.
After leaving England in 2011, he played for Larissa in Greece and Orlando Pirates in South Africa. In 2012, he returned to England to play for Chesterfield.
Luís Boa Morte also played for the Portugal national football team from 2001 to 2009, earning 28 caps. He represented Portugal at the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Starting at Sporting CP
Luís Boa Morte was born in Lisbon, Portugal. His parents were from São Tomé and Príncipe. He began his professional football career with Sporting CP, a well-known club in Portugal.
Time at Arsenal
Boa Morte joined Arsenal in 1997. He was one of the first players signed by manager Arsène Wenger. He made his first appearance for Arsenal on August 23, 1997.
During the 1997–98 season, when Arsenal won both the league and the FA Cup, he played in 15 league games. He scored two goals that season in a League Cup match. The next season, he continued to be a regular part of the squad, often coming on as a substitute. He scored his fourth and final goal for Arsenal in an FA Cup game.
Moving to Southampton
After Arsenal, Boa Morte played for Southampton for one season. He made 17 appearances for the club and scored one goal.
Success with Fulham
Boa Morte joined Fulham on loan in 2000. In his first season, he helped Fulham win the Division 1 title. He played in 39 league games and scored 18 goals, helping Fulham earn 101 points. Because of his great performance, Fulham signed him permanently in June 2001.
In the 2004–05 season, he was voted Fulham's Player of the Season. Fans at Fulham gave him the nickname Dead Snake. This was a funny mistranslation of his last name. In August 2005, he became the team captain. On March 19, 2006, he scored the only goal in a 1–0 win against Chelsea. This was Fulham's first win against Chelsea since 1979.
Fulham supporters loved Boa Morte for his passionate and determined style of play. Even when his performance dipped later, he was still seen as a fan favorite.
Playing for West Ham United
In January 2007, Boa Morte signed with West Ham United. He played his first game for them in an FA Cup match. On April 28, 2007, he scored his first goal for West Ham in a 3–0 win against Wigan Athletic.
In July 2009, Boa Morte got a serious knee injury during a friendly game. He worked hard to recover and returned to play in April 2010. He scored his first goal for West Ham in over three years in a 1–1 draw against Manchester City. In June 2010, he signed a new two-year contract with West Ham. His contract with West Ham ended in August 2011.
Time in Greece and South Africa
In August 2011, Boa Morte signed a two-year contract with AEL in Greece. He joined his former coach Chris Coleman there. He left the club in January 2012 due to financial issues.
On January 24, 2012, Boa Morte signed an 18-month deal with Orlando Pirates in South Africa. He made only two starts for the team before leaving in May.
Final Club: Chesterfield
On October 10, 2012, Boa Morte signed with Chesterfield, a team in League Two. He said that playing football was the most important thing for him. His contract was not renewed in January 2013, and he left the club.
In August 2013, Boa Morte briefly joined Four Marks, a local team in the 11th tier of English football.
International Career
Boa Morte made his first appearance for the Portugal national football team on April 25, 2001. This was in a friendly match against France. His only goal for Portugal came on November 14, 2001, in a 5–1 home win against Angola.
He was part of Portugal's team that finished fourth at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He played a short time in a group game against Mexico. After not playing for Portugal for three years, he was called back to the team in May 2009. He played his last international game on June 6, 2009, in a World Cup qualifier against Albania. He played 28 games for Portugal and scored one goal.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Boa Morte started helping coaches at the Fulham academy. In 2014, he became assistant manager for Sporting CP B, which is the reserve team for Sporting CP. Later, he became the manager of the club's U19 team.
He then worked as a scout for Arsenal. In February 2017, he left Arsenal to become the manager of Sintrense. In June 2018, he managed Portimonense's U23 squad. He also worked as an assistant manager for Maccabi Haifa in Israel.
In June 2019, Boa Morte became an assistant manager for Everton, working with Marco Silva. They both left Everton in December of that year.
In July 2021, Boa Morte joined Fulham again as a first-team coach, working with Marco Silva once more. On March 19, 2024, it was announced that Boa Morte would leave Fulham to become the manager of the Guinea-Bissau national football team. His first game as manager was a goalless draw against Ethiopia on June 6, 2024.
Personal Life
Boa Morte made a guest appearance in a children's TV show called Grange Hill in 1999. He also appeared on the MTV show Cribs, where he showed his modest house and car.
His nephew, Aylton, born in 1993, is also a professional footballer who plays as a winger.
