Luís Boa Morte Pereira, born on August 4, 1977, is a Portuguese football coach and a former professional player. He played as an attacking winger, forward, and midfielder. Currently, he is the head coach for the Guinea-Bissau national football team.
Boa Morte started his football journey in the youth teams of Sporting CP in Portugal. He then moved to England, playing for famous Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Southampton, Fulham, and West Ham United. After his time in England, he played in Greece and South Africa. In 2012, he returned to England to play for Chesterfield.
He also represented the Portugal national football team from 2001 to 2009, playing 28 games. He was part of the team for the 2004 Olympics and the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Starting with Sporting CP
Luís Boa Morte was born in Lisbon, Portugal. His parents were from São Tomé and Príncipe. He began his professional football career at Sporting CP, a well-known club in Portugal.
Playing for Arsenal
In 1997, Boa Morte moved to England and joined Arsenal. He was one of the first players signed by manager Arsène Wenger. He made his first appearance for Arsenal on August 23, 1997.
During the 1997–98 season, when Arsenal won both the league and the FA Cup, he played in 15 league games. He scored two goals that season in a League Cup match against Birmingham City. He also played in the UEFA Champions League and scored a goal against Panathinaikos.
Time at Southampton
Boa Morte played for Southampton for one season. He made 17 appearances and scored one goal during his time there.
Fulham Days
Boa Morte joined Fulham on loan in 2000. In his first season, he helped Fulham win the Division 1 title. He played in 39 league games and scored 18 goals, helping the team earn 101 points. Because of his great performance, Fulham signed him permanently in June 2001.
He became a very popular player among Fulham fans. They liked his passionate and determined style of play. He was even voted Player of the Season for 2004–05. Fans sometimes jokingly called him "Dead Snake" because of a funny mistranslation of his last name. In August 2005, he was made team captain. He scored an important goal against Chelsea in 2006, helping Fulham win 1–0.
West Ham United
In January 2007, Boa Morte moved to West Ham United. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract. He played his first game for West Ham in an FA Cup match. On April 28, 2007, he scored his first goal for the club in a 3–0 win against Wigan Athletic.
In July 2009, Boa Morte got a serious knee injury during a friendly game. He worked hard to recover and returned to play in April 2010. He scored his first goal for West Ham in over three years against Manchester City. In August 2011, he left West Ham.
Later Career Moves
After West Ham, Boa Morte signed with AEL in Greece in August 2011. He rejoined his former coach, Chris Coleman. However, he left the club in January 2012 due to financial issues.
He then moved to South Africa and signed an 18-month deal with Orlando Pirates in January 2012. He made only a few appearances before leaving the club in May. In October 2012, Boa Morte returned to England and joined Chesterfield. He wanted to play more football. His contract ended in January 2013, and he left the club. In August 2013, he played for a local amateur team called Four Marks.
International Career
Luís Boa Morte made his first appearance for the Portugal national football team on April 25, 2001, in a friendly game against France. He scored his only goal for Portugal in a 5–1 win against Angola in November 2001.
He was part of the under-23 team for the 2004 Olympic tournament in Greece. He was sent off in a match against Iraq. Boa Morte was also part of Portugal's team that finished fourth at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. He played in one game during the tournament. He played his last game for Portugal in June 2009.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Boa Morte started his coaching career. He helped out at the Fulham academy. In 2014, he became assistant manager for Sporting CP B, the reserve team of Sporting CP. Later, he coached the U19 team at Sporting.
He then worked as a scout for Arsenal. In 2017, he became the manager of Sintrense. He also managed Portimonense's U23 squad and was an assistant manager for Maccabi Haifa.
In June 2019, Boa Morte joined Everton as an assistant manager. He later became a first-team coach at Fulham in July 2021. In March 2024, it was announced that he would leave Fulham to become the manager of the Guinea-Bissau national football team. His first game as their coach was a goalless draw against Ethiopia in June 2024.
Personal Life
Luís Boa Morte even made a guest appearance on the BBC children's TV show Grange Hill in 1999. He also appeared on the MTV show Cribs, where he showed his house and car. His nephew, Aylton, is also a professional football player.
