Life and Career

Luc Bondy learned about theatre in Paris. In 1969, he started working as an assistant at the Thalia Theatre in Hamburg. Later, in 1985, he became the director of the famous Schaubühne theatre in Berlin. He also directed shows at the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Festival.
One of his well-known opera productions was Tosca by Puccini at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. When it first opened in 2009, some people in the audience didn't like it very much. However, the music director, James Levine, compared it to a "Hitchcock movie," meaning it was exciting and dramatic.
Luc Bondy also directed an opera called Charlotte Salomon. He explained that the show was about a Jewish artist and her story.
