Lucas Digne (born on July 20, 1993) is a French professional footballer. He plays as a left back for the English club Aston Villa. He also plays for the French national team.
Digne started his career at Lille in France. Then, he joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2013. He spent a season on loan at Roma in Italy. In July 2016, he moved to Barcelona in Spain. Even though he didn't play every game, he won many trophies with these clubs.
In August 2018, Digne joined Everton in England. He played 113 games for them. In January 2022, he moved to Aston Villa. Digne also won the 2013 World Cup with the France under-20 team. He first played for the senior French team in March 2014. He has played for France in major tournaments like the 2014 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2016.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Lille
Lucas Digne was born in Meaux, France. He grew up playing football at Lille. On July 27, 2010, he signed his first professional contract. Before the 2011–12 season, he joined the main team. He was given the number 3 shirt.
Digne played his first professional game on October 26, 2011. It was a big 6–1 win against Sedan. In January 2012, he signed a longer contract until 2016. He made his Ligue 1 debut on January 28, 2012. Lille finished third in the league that season.
Digne became a regular player in the 2012–13 season. He helped Lille win games. He scored his first goal on April 7, 2013, from a penalty kick. Two weeks later, he scored again.
Moving to Paris Saint-Germain
On July 17, 2013, Digne signed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The transfer fee was about €15 million. He was a substitute when PSG won the 2013 Trophée des Champions. This was a 2–1 victory over Bordeaux.
He made his debut for PSG on September 13. PSG won both the league and the league cup that season. Digne was a backup player to the experienced Maxwell.
Digne played in the 2014 Trophée des Champions final. PSG won 2–0 against Guingamp. In the 2014–15 season, PSG won all four domestic trophies. Digne was a substitute in some of these final wins.
Loan Spell at Roma
On August 26, 2015, Digne joined the Italian club Roma. It was a loan deal for one season. He made his debut five days later. Roma won 2–1 against Juventus.
Digne scored his first goal for Roma on September 26. It was a header in a 5–1 win against Carpi. He scored again on February 12, 2016, from a long shot. On April 17, he scored in a 3–3 draw against Atalanta. Roma finished third in Serie A. Digne said he wanted to stay at Roma permanently.
Joining Barcelona

On July 13, 2016, Digne moved to the Spanish club Barcelona. He signed a five-year contract. The fee was €16.5 million. On August 14, 2016, Digne played his first game for Barcelona. They won 2–0 against Sevilla.
He played 26 games in his first season. He scored one goal in a big 7–0 win against Hércules. Barcelona won the Copa del Rey that season. Digne was not used in the final game.
In the 2017–18 season, Digne played 20 times. Barcelona won both the league and the cup. On October 18, 2017, he scored a goal in the Champions League. It was a 3–1 win against Olympiacos.
Playing for Everton
Digne joined the English club Everton on August 1, 2018. He signed a five-year deal for £18 million. He made his debut ten days later. It was a 2–2 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers. On August 29, he started his first game for Everton. He helped them win 3–1 against Rotherham United.
By October, Digne became Everton's main left back. He scored his first goal for the club on December 10. It was a free kick that helped Everton draw 2–2 with Watford. Sixteen days later, he scored two goals in a 5–1 win against Burnley.

Joining Aston Villa

On August 23, Digne scored his first goal for Aston Villa. It was in a 4–1 win against Bolton Wanderers. On September 21, 2022, Digne got an ankle injury while playing for France. He returned to play on October 29. On November 6, Digne scored his first league goal for Aston Villa. This was in a 3–1 win over Manchester United.

International Career
Digne played for the French youth teams. He played for the U16, U17, and U18 teams. In 2013, he played every game as France won the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
He was first called up to the senior French team in February 2014. He made his debut on March 5, 2014. It was a 2–0 win against the Netherlands.
In June 2014, Digne was chosen for the French squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He played one game in the tournament. France reached the quarter-finals.
Digne was also part of the French squad for UEFA Euro 2016. France finished as runners-up in this tournament. He was also on standby for the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad.
At UEFA Euro 2020, Digne came on as a substitute. However, he also got an injury. This caused the French team to change their playing style. Digne was not chosen for the 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

On December 27, 2014, Lucas Digne married his girlfriend, Tiziri. They met when they were in school. They have a son and a daughter.
Digne was in Barcelona during a difficult event on August 17, 2017. He helped people who were injured.
