Lucille Lake is a beautiful, small lake high up in the mountains of Idaho, United States. It's known as an "alpine lake" because it's found in a very high-altitude area, surrounded by tall peaks. This peaceful lake is located in Custer County, within the stunning Sawtooth Mountains. It's part of a special protected area called the Sawtooth National Recreation Area, which means it's a place where nature is kept wild and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.

About Lucille Lake

Lucille Lake is quite small, stretching about 0.22 miles (0.35 km) long and 0.20 miles (0.32 km) wide. It sits at a high elevation of 8,760 feet (2,670 meters) above sea level. The lake was formed by glaciers, which were giant sheets of ice that moved across the land long ago, carving out the landscape. Water flows out of Lucille Lake into a stream called Hell Roaring Creek, which eventually joins the Salmon River.

Location in the Sawtooth Wilderness

Lucille Lake is located deep inside the Sawtooth Wilderness. A wilderness area is a special place where nature is left mostly untouched by humans. This means there are very few roads or buildings. To help protect this wild environment, visitors usually need a special permit to enter. You can often get these permits at boxes located at the start of trails or at the wilderness boundaries.
