Luis Bográn Barahona (born June 3, 1849 – died July 9, 1895) was an important president of Honduras. He served two times in a row, from November 30, 1883, to November 30, 1891. Luis Bográn was born in Santa Bárbara, a northern part of Honduras. His parents were Saturnino Bográn Bonilla and Gertrudis Barahona Leiva.
His family was well-known and wealthy in politics. The name "Bográn" comes from the French name "Beaugrand." Luis Bográn was also the brother of a future president, Francisco Bográn. He was also the first cousin of another future president, Miguel Paz Barahona.

Who Was Luis Bográn?
Early Life and Career
After finishing high school in his hometown, Luis Bográn studied law at the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. Later, he joined the military. He quickly became a general. This happened after he led successful military actions against forces from El Salvador that tried to enter Honduras.
In 1878, he married Teresa Morejon Ferrera. Soon after, he became involved in politics. He was a close helper and student of former president Marco Aurelio Soto.
Leading Honduras: Key Achievements
Luis Bográn's two terms as president were very good for Honduras. He is remembered for making the education system much bigger. He opened many new schools and learning places across the country. Some of these included the National School of Arts and the Literary-Scientific Academy. He also started the National Typography/Press.
He brought a lot of money from other countries to Honduras. This money was mostly used in farming, especially on the northern coast. This created many jobs and helped the economy grow. He also made the capital city, Tegucigalpa, better by improving its buildings and roads.
President Bográn also started studies and research at the ancient Mayan city of Copán. He invited universities from other countries to study the old buildings and items left by the Mayans. He was also one of the people who helped start the National Party of Honduras.
Working for Central American Unity
Luis Bográn strongly believed in the ideas of Francisco Morazán. Morazán wanted to unite the countries of Central America. Bográn tried to bring together the five Central American states. He worked with the president of Guatemala at the time, Justo Rufino Barrios, to make this happen.
However, this plan to unite the countries did not work out. Powerful groups in these states did not want the countries to join together. They successfully stopped the efforts to create a single Central American nation.
Legacy
Luis Bográn died in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on July 9, 1895. He is remembered in Honduras for his dedication to education and for helping to modernize the country's economy and infrastructure during his time as president.
