History of Lynbrook Village
The area we now call Lynbrook has had several names over time. It was first known as Rechquaakie. Later, it was called Parson's Corners and Bloomfield.
How Lynbrook Got Its Name
The village was once known as Pearsall's Corners. This name came from Mr. Pearsall's General Store. The store was a famous stop for stagecoaches traveling from New York City to Long Island. People also called it "Five Corners." This was because the stagecoach stop was where Hempstead Avenue, Merrick Road, and Broadway met.
The name changed to Lynbrook in 1894. The village officially became incorporated in 1911. The name "Lynbrook" is a clever twist on the word "Brooklyn." Many people who moved to the town around that time came from Brooklyn. They simply split "Brooklyn" into syllables and switched them around to get "Lynbrook."
