Lynna Irby-Jackson, born on December 6, 1998, is an amazing American runner. She is a sprinter who competes in races like the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dash. When she was just 12 years old, Lynna set a world record in the 400-meter dash! She ran it in 54.57 seconds. Later, she became the fastest American high school 400-meter runner in 20 years. Lynna has won 16 national titles from Junior Olympic and Youth National track meets. She also earned silver medals in the 400-meter race at the 2015 World Youth Championships and the 2016 World Junior Championships.

Lynna Irby's Running Journey

Lynna started her running career at nine years old. She joined the Indiana Storm Track Club. She went to Pike High School and was a star athlete.

High School Success

At Pike High School, Lynna won the Gatorade Player of the Year award for Indiana in both 2015 and 2016. The Indianapolis Star newspaper also gave her the 2016 Indiana Sports Award. She was named Pike High School's Most Valuable Player (MVP) for three years in a row.

In her freshman year, Lynna helped her high school team finish as runner-up at the state meet. She scored 30 individual points for her team. In her sophomore year, she again earned 30 individual points. She also anchored, or ran the final leg, of the 4 × 400-meter relay team. This helped Pike High School win the state championship!

Representing Team USA

Lynna earned 16 national titles from Junior Olympic and Youth National meets. She also joined the USA teams for the 2015 World Youth Championships and the 2016 World U20 Championships.

While running for the USA, Lynna won a silver medal in the 400-meter race. She ran 51.79 seconds in 2015 (for under 18) and 51.39 seconds in 2016 (for under 20). She also ran on the 4 × 400-meter relay team both years, winning gold medals. In 2016, she helped the 4 × 100-meter relay team win gold in the preliminary race.

High School Records

Lynna was a top recruit for college track and field. She was considered the best 400-meter recruit in her graduating class of 2017.

Lynna had an amazing record in Indiana state postseason races. She won 45 out of 45 races! She earned nine individual state titles in all sprint events. By the end of her high school career in 2017, Lynna had won 12 individual state titles. She was the first person ever to win all three sprint events (100m, 200m, 400m) for all four years of high school.

Lynna also holds Indiana state records. She set the indoor state record in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.46 seconds in 2016. She also set the outdoor 100-meter record at 11.41 seconds in 2017.
