Maaza (say "Mah-zah") is a popular fruit drink brand. It comes from India and is owned by The Coca-Cola Company. You can find Maaza drinks in Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia. The most famous Maaza drink is its delicious mango flavor.
History of Maaza
Maaza first started in India in 1976. Later, in 1993, Coca-Cola bought Maaza. They also bought other popular Indian drink brands like Limca and Thums Up from a company called Parle Bisleri.
Around the same time, a company in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) started selling Maaza. They were a "franchisee," which means they had permission to sell Maaza in the Middle East and Africa. By 1995, they officially owned the rights to the Maaza brand in those areas.
Maaza also spread to other parts of the world. In 2005, a company called House of Spices got the rights for Maaza in North America. Then, in 2006, Infra Foodbrands took over Maaza for Europe, the Caribbean, and West Africa. They also work with House of Spices for the North American market.
Maaza Products and Flavors
When Maaza first started, Coca-Cola offered mango, orange, and pineapple flavors. For a while, only the mango flavor was widely available. But later, Coca-Cola brought back the orange and pineapple flavors in India.
Maaza's mango drink has some big competitors. These include Pepsi's Slice mango drink and Frooti, which is made by Parle Agro.
In the past, Maaza and Slice were sold in bottles that you could return. Frooti was sold in small cartons. Now, you can find all these drinks in small cartons and larger plastic bottles made of PET.
Maaza's mango drink has a special taste. It's known for being a bit "pulpy," meaning it feels like it has real fruit pulp. It's also a little sweeter than Slice. Maaza says its mango drink uses pulp from the Alphonso mango. This type of mango is often called the "King of Mangoes" in India because of its great taste.
Maaza is a very well-known drink in places like Dubai.
