History
How Machine Shop Records Started (1999–2002)

The record label was first called The Shinoda Imprint. It was named after Mike Shinoda. Machine Shop Records began in 1999 in Linkin Park drummer Rob Bourdon's living room. The band was packing CDs and stickers for their first fans.
At first, the label could only release special CDs for the band's fan club each year. Mike Shinoda wanted to release Linkin Park's main albums through his label. However, the band's parent company, Warner Bros. Records, already managed those albums. It was too hard for Shinoda to manage them alone.
The first music released by the label was for the fan club. It was an EP called LP Underground 2.0. This EP came out on November 18, 2002. It also came with cool extras like T-shirts, stickers, and a membership card. The label released another EP for the fan club on November 17, 2003. This one was called LP Underground 3.0. It had unreleased songs from the live album Live in Texas. That live album was released on November 18, 2003.
Growing Success (2003–2007)
The label later changed its name to Machine Shop. This happened when more Linkin Park band members got involved. Brad Delson became an A&R representative for the label. An A&R person helps find new artists and works with them to create music.
Machine Shop Records became very successful after a special album was released. This album was called Collision Course. It was a collaboration between Jay-Z and Linkin Park. It came out on November 30, 2004. This album was a big hit and sold millions of copies in America.
After this, the label signed new artists. These included No Warning, Simplistic, and LNDN. The album Suffer, Survive by No Warning was the first album not by Linkin Park to be released by Machine Shop alone. It came out on October 19, 2004. Songs from this album helped No Warning and the label become more known.
On November 22, 2005, Machine Shop Records had another big success. They released The Rising Tied by Fort Minor. This was Mike Shinoda's side project. Because of this album's success, artists like Styles of Beyond and Holly Brook joined the label. Holly Brook released two EPs with the label. Fort Minor's songs, like "Where'd You Go" featuring Holly Brook, were very popular. "Where'd You Go" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The label also kept releasing EPs for the Linkin Park fan club. They also released mixtapes like We Major. In 2006, the label gained more attention. This was when the song "Numb/Encore" by Linkin Park and Jay-Z won a Grammy Award. On October 10, 2005, Machine Shop Records released its own mixtape. It featured various artists like Taproot and Papa Roach.
A Break and Return (2007–Present)
From 2007 to 2009, Machine Shop Recordings took a break. Mike Shinoda explained that there were disagreements with the parent company, Warner Bros. Records. During this time, some artists like Holly Brook and Styles of Beyond left the label.
After the break, the label started releasing music again. Their first releases were charity albums like Download to Donate for Haiti. These projects were handled by Shinoda and Enrique Iglesias. The soundtrack for 8-bit Rebellion! also marked the label's return in America.
The first major album released after the break was Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns. It came out on September 14, 2010. This album reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart. This brought the label back to mainstream success. Other successful albums followed, including Living Things and The Hunting Party.
In 2013, the label released a non-Linkin Park album again. This was Resurrection of the Wolf by No Warning. It was released after the band reunited. Machine Shop Records also released the soundtrack album Mall. The label usually releases Linkin Park's singles only in the United States. However, The Hunting Party was released outside the US for the first time after the break, in Australia.
