Robert Siers Cavallo (born March 21, 1963) is an American music producer, musician, and record company executive. He is known for helping create many popular albums. In fact, he has worked on albums that have sold over 130 million copies around the world! Rob Cavallo has also won three Grammy Awards for his amazing work.

He is especially famous for producing music for the band Green Day. But he has also worked with many other well-known artists. These include Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Eric Clapton, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Dave Matthews Band, Kid Rock, Alanis Morissette, Black Sabbath, Phil Collins, and Paramore.

Rob Cavallo is also a talented musician himself. He can play many instruments. He has professional credits for playing bass, keyboard, organ, piano, guitar, and drums.

Early Life and Music Start

Rob Cavallo was born in Washington, D.C.. When he was 10 years old, his family moved to Los Angeles, California. His love for music began at age 11. This happened after he listened to his father's collection of songs by The Beatles.

He went to the University of Southern California. He graduated in 1985 with a degree in English. Cavallo also studied music at the Dick Grove School of Music.

Rob Cavallo's Career in Music

Early in his career, Rob Cavallo worked with famous sound engineer George Massenburg. This was at The Complex Recording Studios. In 1987, he joined Warner Bros. Records. He started as an A&R representative. This job involves finding new artists and helping them develop. One of his first tasks was working with the band Black Sabbath.

During his first time at Warner Bros. Records, he signed both the Goo Goo Dolls and Green Day. This means he helped these bands get a record deal. Later, in 1998, Cavallo became a senior vice-president at Hollywood Records. He then moved to Warner Music Group in 2002. By 2009, he became the chief creative officer for the company. This is a very important role in guiding the company's creative direction. In 2011, he was named chairman of Warner Bros. Records. He held this top position until December 2012.

Cavallo also helped start a media company called Level 7. He created this company with Henry T. Nicholas III, who co-founded Broadcom Corporation. In 2021, Rob Cavallo launched a new company called Done Deal Management. He did this with a music technology platform called Vydia.

Rob Cavallo has produced many albums and songs that have sold millions of copies. These are called "platinum-selling" records.

Other Important Projects

Rob Cavallo produced the Fleetwood Mac album Say You Will. This album sold enough copies to go "gold" in the US, Canada, and Britain. The Dave Matthews Band's album Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King, also produced by Cavallo, reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts. Phil Collins' song "Can't Stop Loving You" was from a Cavallo-produced album. It became number one on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Two songs produced by Cavallo for the Goo Goo Dolls, "Iris" and "Slide", were listed among Billboard's top 100 pop songs from 1992 to 2012. "Iris" was even named the top pop song during that period, and "Slide" was ninth.

Cavallo also played an important role as an A&R Representative for Linkin Park's song Burn It Down. This song reached the 30th position on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified as Platinum.

Awards and Recognition

Rob Cavallo has won three Grammy Awards, which are very prestigious music awards:

  • In 1998, he won Producer of the Year.
  • In 2004, he won Best Rock Album for producing Green Day's American Idiot.
  • In 2005, he won Record of the Year for producing Green Day's song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

Billboard Magazine also recognized Cavallo's influence. They ranked him number 45 in their 2012 Power 100 rankings.
