VH1 also ranked Stone Temple Pilots at number 40 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock.
The band released a collection of their best songs called Thank You in 2003. After this, the band members worked on other projects. Scott Weiland became the lead singer for Velvet Revolver. The DeLeo brothers started a band called Army of Anyone with Richard Patrick. Army of Anyone released their first album in 2006. How Stone Temple Pilots Started
The band's story began when Scott Weiland and Robert DeLeo met at a concert. They decided to form a band. They added two of Scott's friends from Edison High School, Corey Hicock (guitar) and David Allen (drums).
At first, they called their band Mighty Joe Young. Around 1990, they recorded some demo songs. While they were recording, they found out that a blues musician already used the name Mighty Joe Young. So, they decided to change their name. They chose to use the initials STP and by 1992, they became known as Stone Temple Pilots.
