U.S. Route 1 is a main road that goes through the center of Madawaska. This highway connects Madawaska to other towns. For example, it goes about 19 miles (31 km) southwest to Fort Kent. It also goes about 47 miles (76 km) southeast to Caribou.
There's a bridge over the Saint John River that links Madawaska to the city of Edmundston, which is in New Brunswick, Canada. Another river, the Madawaska River from New Brunswick, joins the Saint John River just east of this international bridge.
