History of Magnolia
The area where Magnolia is now was first known as Caroon Manor. The land was given by the Duke of York.
The town of Magnolia officially became a town in 1885. It was named after the Magnolia tree, which was the Duke of York's favorite. When the town was created, its founders decided it should have a circular shape. This circle was meant to show brotherhood. The town's boundary is still the same today. The town council has chosen not to expand its borders.
Some old and important places in Magnolia are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the John B. Lindale House and the Matthew Lowber House.

Transportation in Magnolia
Main Street is the main road that goes north and south through Magnolia. It connects to Dover to the north and Clapham Road to the south. Walnut Street is the main road that goes east and west. It leads to Irish Hill Road to the west and Barkers Landing Road to the east.
Public bus service is available in Magnolia through DART First State. Route 303 connects Magnolia to Dover in the north and to Milford and Georgetown in the south.

Electricity in Magnolia is provided by Delmarva Power. This company is part of Exelon. Chesapeake Utilities supplies natural gas to the town. The town's own Water Department provides water to all residents.
