The Mahoosuc Range is a cool mountain range that stretches across the border of New Hampshire and Maine. It's like a northern part of the bigger White Mountains. The tallest mountain here is Old Speck Mountain, which stands at about 4,170 feet (1,270 meters) high. It's actually the fourth-tallest mountain in all of Maine!

Many parts of the Mahoosuc Range are public land. This means they are protected for everyone to enjoy. Some areas are part of the National Park Service's Appalachian Trail path. Other parts are within Grafton Notch State Park in Maine.

Exploring the Mahoosuc Range

The famous Appalachian Trail goes right through the main ridge of the Mahoosucs. This trail connects Shelburne, New Hampshire to Grafton Notch in Maine. Hikers on the Appalachian Trail get to see amazing views here.

Mahoosuc Notch: A Tough Hike

One of the most famous spots in the range is Mahoosuc Notch. This area is known as one of the hardest parts of the entire Appalachian Trail! It's a deep, narrow valley that cuts through the middle of the range. It lies between Mahoosuc Mountain and Fulling Mill Mountain. Hikers often have to climb over and under huge boulders here.
