A Look Back: Mall History
The Mall of Georgia first opened its doors on August 13, 1999. When it first opened, its main stores were Dillard's, JCPenney, Lord & Taylor, and Nordstrom. It also had other stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Haverty's, and Galyan's (which is now Dick's Sporting Goods).
The mall also has a large movie theater called Regal Cinemas. This theater includes an IMAX screen. In 2000, another big store, Rich's, was added. This brought the total number of stores to over 200.
Some of the main stores have changed over the years. Lord & Taylor closed in 2003. A new Belk store opened in its place in 2005. The Rich's store became Rich's-Macy's in 2003. Then, in 2005, it became just Macy's. Nordstrom closed in 2015. A new store called Von Maur opened in that spot in 2016.
