A Look at Mambiche's Past

Puerto Rico used to belong to Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. From then on, Puerto Rico became a territory of the U.S.

Early Population Counts

A year later, in 1899, the United States Department of War counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that the neighborhoods of Río Abajo and Mambiche together had 1,289 people. The population of Mambiche has grown over the years, reaching 2,387 people by 2010.
