History of Manannah
Early Beginnings
Manannah was first planned out in 1856. This process, called "platting," is when someone draws up a map of an area, dividing it into lots and streets. It was planned again in 1871. People believe the name "Manannah" came from a place in Scotland.
Post Office and Population
A post office was opened in Manannah in 1857. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office stayed open for many years, until 1907.
In 1880, the United States Census counted the population of Manannah. At that time, 114 people lived in the community.
