Manfred's "Banana Crosses"
Kaltz was very famous for his special right-footed crosses. These crosses were hit with so much spin that they would curve in the air like a banana! Because of this, fans and teammates affectionately called them "Bananenflanken," which means "banana crosses."
He often used this unique technique to set up goals for his teammate, the powerful striker Horst Hrubesch. Hrubesch scored many of his 96 goals for HSV from Kaltz's amazing crosses, which he would head into the goal. Hrubesch once famously described their teamwork by saying, "Manni banana, I head, goal." This shows how effective their partnership was on the field.
