Manoela Latini Gavassi Francisco (born January 4, 1993), known as Manu Gavassi, is a talented Brazilian singer, songwriter, and actress. She is famous for her pop music and her roles in TV shows and movies.

Early life and beginnings

Manu Gavassi grew up in São Paulo, Brazil. Her father, Zé Luiz, is a broadcaster, and her mother, Daniela Gavassi, is a psychologist and artist. Manu has a younger sister named Catarina. When she was 12, her dad taught her how to play the guitar. She wrote her very first song at age 13. Later, at 19, she moved out on her own and started taking acting classes.

Music and acting career

Starting out: 2009–2011

Manu Gavassi began her career in 2009 with Capricho magazine. She modeled for fashion and appeared in articles. A reporter from the magazine discovered Manu could sing and asked for her videos to be put on the magazine's website. People loved her videos, especially when she sang covers of songs by artists like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift. She also shared her own songs on her YouTube channel.

Her father sent her singing videos to music producer Rick Bonadio. He was impressed and invited Manu to join his record label, Midas Music. She recorded her first album there. Her first album, named Manu Gavassi, was recorded in just two months and came out on August 31, 2010. Her first song, "Garoto Errado," was released a week before the album. Manu's first live show was on September 18, 2010. In February 2011, she released another song called "Planos Impossíveis." Both "Garoto Errado" and "Planos Impossíveis" became very popular and earned "gold record" awards. In November, she released her last song from the album, "Odeio." That same month, she started acting with a small role in the TV series Julie e os Fantasmas.

New albums and TV roles: 2012–2014

In February 2012, Manu released the song "Você Já Deveria Saber." She also sang two songs, "O Céu Eu Vou Tocar" and "Ao Ar Livre," for the soundtrack of the Disney movie Brave. In September, her song "Conto de Fadas" was released and quickly became one of the top ten songs on iTunes Brazil. This song was the first from her second album.

In April 2013, she released "Clichê Adolescente," which was also the name of her new album. The album came out on November 29, 2013. In January 2014, she sang a duet in Portuguese with Mexican singer Dulce María for the song "Antes Que Ver El Sol."

Manu also started acting more. In February 2014, she joined the TV show Em Família. In December, she played a character named Vicki in the TV series Malhação. Fans loved her character so much that she stayed on the show until the end of the season. She also released a new song, "Esse Amor Tão Errado," with a music video filmed in Los Angeles.

Vício and movie debut: 2015–2016

In 2015, Manu began working on her first concert tour, called Vício. In November, she released "Camiseta," the first song from her new EP (a mini-album) also called Vício. The Vício EP was released on December 11, 2015, and had five new songs. Singer Junior Lima helped produce the EP. The second song, "Direção," came out in February 2016, and its music video featured actor Rafael Vitti. Manu started her Vício Tour in São Paulo on March 6, 2016.

In May, she released the song "Vício." The music video for "Vício" was released in two parts. To unlock the second part, fans had to donate blood as part of a campaign called Play For Life. In October, she released "Sozinha," the last song from the Vício EP. In November 2016, Manu started filming her first movie, Socorro, Virei Uma Garota, where she played the main character, Melina. In December 2016, she signed with Universal Music.

On April 7, 2017, Manu released her third album, titled Manu. The main song from the album, "Hipnose," was released on the same day. The Manu Tour started on May 18, 2017. In August, she released "Muito Muito," the second song from the album, and she directed and wrote the music video herself.

In November 2017, Manu published her first book, Olá Caderno!. In February 2018, she directed a music video for the duo Anavitória. In March, she released "Me Beija," a song with a music video that had many references to the 2000s. In June, she worked with Portuguese singer Agir on a new version of her song "Ninguém Vai Saber."

In 2018, she starred in the TV series Z4 as a choreographer. In December, she released an EP called Cute but Psycho with three songs. She also launched a web series on YouTube called Garota Errada, which she directed and wrote. In May 2019, she released the EP MINIDocs Nashville with four re-recorded songs to celebrate her ten years in music. This EP reached number one on iTunes Brazil. In September, she released Cute but (still) Psycho, which was the second part of her earlier EP. In December 2019, Manu performed an acoustic show called Cute but Psycho Experience.

Big Brother Brasil and recent projects: 2020–present

In 2020, Manu Gavassi was a contestant on the TV reality show Big Brother Brasil. She finished in 3rd place. Before joining the show, Manu recorded videos for her web series Garota Errada. These videos were shared on her Instagram and showed her funny take on being in the show. People praised her smart marketing strategy while she was on the show.

After the show, it was reported that the streaming platform Globoplay was interested in making Garota Errada into a full series. Manu has said that the series might go to TV or streaming, with actor Selton Mello directing and actress Bruna Marquezine possibly joining. On January 28, 2020, she released "Audio of Excuses" as a single. The music video for this song got 1 million views in 24 hours and was number one on YouTube Brazil's hot videos. The song also topped Spotify's Top 50 viral chart.

Her time on Big Brother Brasil also made her book Olá, Caderno! sell out and led to plans for a movie adaptation. In February 2020, Manu announced a mini-tour, but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2020, Manu became the highest-ranked Brazilian artist on Billboard's Social 50 Chart. In May, she released the song "Eu Te Quero" with singer Zeeba. She also launched a clothing and accessories collection with C&A. In June, she was invited to join the TV show Salve-se Quem Puder but had to decline because she was already part of the cast for the Netflix series Maldivas. On August 21, 2020, Manu released the song "Deve Ser Horrível Dormir Sem Mim" with Gloria Groove.

In June 2021, Manu started dating model Jullio Reis. In May 2024, after three years of dating, Manu and Jullio got engaged. In November 2024, they announced they were expecting their first child. Their daughter was born on April 4, 2025.
