The Manzanola Bridge was a special type of bridge called a truss bridge. It was first built in 1911 by a company named Patterson-Burghardt. This bridge originally crossed the Colorado River. Later, in 1950, it was moved to a new spot.

At its new location, the Manzanola Bridge crossed the Arkansas River on Colorado State Highway 207. It connected the town of Manzanola in Otero County with Crowley County in Colorado.

The Bridge's Journey

The first Manzanola Bridge was built in 1908. It was located near Clifton in Mesa County. This early bridge stretched across the Colorado River.

In 1950, a newer design replaced the original bridge. The older bridge was then moved to a different place. It was relocated to cross the Arkansas River. This new spot connected the town of Manzanola, Colorado with Crowley County, Colorado. At this new location, the Manzanola Bridge replaced an older bridge that had three sections.

A Historic Landmark

On June 24, 1985, the Manzanola Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes important buildings, sites, and structures in the United States. Being on this list means the bridge was recognized for its historical value.

However, the bridge's time as a landmark was limited. In 1994, the Manzanola Bridge was taken down. A more modern bridge was built in its place. This new structure was needed to handle the growing traffic on Colorado State Highway 207.

The bridge built in the 1950s was considered very important. It was one of the first "rigid-connected vehicular trusses" in Colorado. It was also one of only seven "riveted Pennsylvania through trusses" in the state. At the time it existed, it was known as the longest roadway truss bridge in Colorado.

Finally, on July 7, 1994, the Manzanola Bridge was removed from the National Register of Historic Places. This happened after the bridge was demolished.
