Marblemount is a small community in Skagit County, Washington, United States. It is known as a CDP, which means it's an area identified by the census bureau for statistical purposes. In 2020, about 286 people lived there. Marblemount is part of the larger Mount Vernon–Anacortes area.

Marblemount's History

Long ago, in 1858, a naturalist named George Gibbs explored the area. At that time, Marblemount was home to an Native American village.

In the 1870s, a new community started to grow. People from Europe and America settled here. They provided supplies for miners working along the Skagit River and Cascade River. A road was built in 1892, connecting Marblemount to a place called Sauk. This made it easier to travel and move goods.

Marblemount is located where the Cascade River meets the Skagit River. This meeting point of two rivers is called a confluence.

The community is surrounded by beautiful mountains. To the east, you can see Lookout Mountain. To the northwest, there are the Helen Buttes.

The total area of Marblemount is about 2.5 square miles (6.4 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.4 square miles (6.1 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.1 square miles (0.3 square kilometers), is water.

Marblemount is located on Washington State Route 20, also known as the North Cascades Highway. This road is very popular, especially for people who enjoy motorcycle touring. Many people consider it one of the best roads in Washington State for its amazing scenery and remote feeling.

If you are traveling east on the North Cascades Highway, Marblemount is the last place to find services like gas or food. The next town with services, Winthrop, is about 70 miles (113 kilometers) away.
