Club Football Journey

Starting at Barcelona
Marc Bartra was born in Sant Jaume dels Domenys, a town in Catalonia, Spain. He first joined the youth team of RCD Espanyol. When he was 11 years old, he moved to Barcelona's famous youth academy, known as La Masia. He worked his way up through the different age groups. In 2009, he was promoted to Barcelona's B team.
Bartra played his first game for Barcelona's main team on February 14, 2010. He came on as a substitute in a match against Atlético Madrid. His first start in a La Liga game was in May 2011. He scored his first goal for the team on May 21, 2011, helping Barcelona win against Málaga.
For the 2012–13 season, Bartra became a permanent member of the first team. However, he didn't play as much as he might have hoped. He signed a new three-year contract in March 2014.
In the 2014 Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, Bartra scored a goal from a Xavi corner kick. Even though he scored, Real Madrid won the game 2–1. Under the new manager Luis Enrique, Bartra continued to be a key player. He played 25 games and scored one goal in the 2014–15 season. That year, Barcelona won the treble, which was a huge achievement.
Time at Borussia Dortmund
On June 3, 2016, Marc Bartra moved to the German club Borussia Dortmund. The transfer cost about €8 million, and he signed a four-year contract. He played his first game for Dortmund on August 14, 2016, in the DFL-Supercup against Bayern Munich. A month later, he scored his first goal for Dortmund. This happened in a UEFA Champions League game against Legia Warsaw, which Dortmund won 6–0.
On April 11, 2017, something very serious happened. As the Dortmund team bus was traveling to a Champions League game, it was hit by three explosions. Marc Bartra was injured in the incident. He broke a bone in his arm and had small pieces of debris in his hand. He had surgery the next day. He later said it was the "longest and hardest 15 minutes of my life." He returned to training just 29 days after his surgery.
Bartra's first game back after his injury was on May 20, 2017. He played the whole game as Dortmund won 4–3 against Werder Bremen. A week later, he helped his team win the DFB-Pokal (German Cup). They beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2–1 in the final.
Playing for Betis
On January 30, 2018, Bartra moved back to Spain to join Real Betis. He signed a contract for five and a half years. He scored his first goal for Betis on May 12, helping his team draw 2–2 in a derby match against Sevilla.
From December 2020 to March 2021, Bartra was unable to play due to health issues. He had problems with his Achilles tendon and his gallbladder. He recovered and played a full 120 minutes in the 2022 Copa del Rey final on April 23, 2022. Betis won the cup after a penalty shootout against Valencia.
Short Time at Trabzonspor
On August 14, 2022, Bartra signed with Trabzonspor, a club in Turkey's Süper Lig. He made his debut two days later in a Champions League play-off game. His first goal for Trabzonspor came on September 18, 2022, in a 3–2 win against Gaziantep. On December 28, he scored a goal but was later sent off with a red card in a game against Fatih Karagümrük.
Bartra left Trabzonspor on July 11, 2023, after agreeing to end his contract early.
Back to Betis
On July 24, 2023, Marc Bartra rejoined Real Betis on a one-year contract. In October 2023, he was diagnosed with a condition in his Achilles tendon. This meant he missed several months of playing time. As of July 2025, he continues to play for Betis.
International Football

Marc Bartra played for Spain's national teams at many different age levels. He earned 37 "caps" (appearances) for Spain's youth teams. This included 16 games for the under-21 team.
He made his debut for the senior Spanish national team on November 16, 2013. This was in a friendly game against Equatorial Guinea. However, this game was later cancelled by FIFA. So, his first official appearance for Spain was on September 8, 2014. He came on as a substitute in a 5–1 win against Macedonia during the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers.
On May 17, 2016, Bartra was chosen for Spain's team for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament in France. He was part of the final squad of 23 players. Spain reached the round of 16 in the tournament, but Bartra did not play in any of the matches.
