Marc Bartra Aregall (born on January 15, 1991) is a Spanish professional footballer. He plays as a centre-back (a defender) for the La Liga club Real Betis.
Marc started his football journey at Barcelona. He played 103 professional games and scored six goals over seven seasons. During this time, he won 13 important awards. These included five La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies. In 2015, his team even won a continental treble, meaning they won three major competitions in one season!
In 2016, Marc moved to the German club Borussia Dortmund. He helped them win the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in his first season. He returned to Spain in 2018 to play for Betis. There, he played 146 games and helped them win the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) in 2022.
Marc also played for Spain's national teams. He won the 2013 European Championship with Spain's under-21 team. He made his debut for the senior team in 2013. He was also chosen to be part of the squad for Euro 2016.

Marc Bartra's Club Career

Playing for Barcelona
Marc Bartra was born in Sant Jaume dels Domenys, a town in Catalonia, Spain. He first joined the youth team of RCD Espanyol when he was a child. At age 11, he moved to Barcelona's famous youth academy, La Masia. He worked his way up through the different youth teams. In 2009, he joined the B team.
Marc played his first game for Barcelona's main team on February 14, 2010. He came in as a substitute during a match against Atlético Madrid. About a year later, he started his first full La Liga game. On May 21, 2011, he scored his first goal for the team. This goal helped Barcelona win 3–1 against Málaga.
For the 2012–13 season, Marc became a permanent part of the first team. He signed a new three-year contract in March 2014.
On April 16, 2014, Marc played in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. He scored a goal from a Xavi corner kick, which tied the score. Even though Real Madrid scored later to win the game, Marc's goal was a big moment for him. In the 2014–15 season, Barcelona won the treble. This means they won three major trophies: La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the UEFA Champions League. Marc played in 25 games and scored one goal that season.
Time at Borussia Dortmund
On June 3, 2016, Marc Bartra moved to the German club Borussia Dortmund. He signed a four-year contract. He played his first game for Dortmund on August 14 in the DFL-Supercup. A month later, he scored his first goal for the club. This happened in a 6–0 win against Legia Warsaw in the UEFA Champions League.
On April 11, 2017, the Dortmund team bus was involved in an incident. Marc was injured and needed an operation on his arm and hand. He bravely returned to training 29 days after his surgery.
Marc's first game back was on May 20, 2017. He played the whole game as Dortmund won 4–3 against Werder Bremen. One week later, he helped his team win the DFB-Pokal (German Cup). He started in the final game, where Dortmund beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2–1.
Playing for Betis
On January 30, 2018, Marc moved back to Spain to join Real Betis. He signed a contract for five and a half years. He scored his first goal for Betis on May 12. It was in a local derby game against Sevilla, which ended in a 2–2 draw.
From December 2020 to March 2021, Marc faced some health challenges and injuries that kept him from playing for a while. He made a strong return and played the full 120 minutes of the 2022 Copa del Rey final on April 23, 2022. Betis won the cup after a penalty shootout against Valencia.
Moving to Trabzonspor
On August 14, 2022, Marc signed with Trabzonspor, a club in Turkey's Süper Lig. He played his first game two days later in a Champions League play-off match. On September 18, he scored his first goal for the team in a 3–2 home win. On December 28, he scored a goal but was sent off (given a red card) in a game against Fatih Karagümrük.
Marc left Trabzonspor on July 11, 2023.
Return to Betis
On July 24, 2023, Marc Bartra rejoined Betis on a one-year contract. In October, he faced another injury that kept him out for several months.
International Career

Marc Bartra played many games for Spain at different youth levels. He played 37 games in total for the youth teams, including 16 for the under-21 team. He made his debut for the senior national team on November 16, 2013, in a friendly game. His first official game for Spain was on September 8, 2014. He came on as a substitute in a 5–1 win against Macedonia during the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers.
On May 17, 2016, Marc was chosen for Spain's team for the Euro 2016 tournament in France. He was part of the final squad of 23 players.
Marc scored his only goal for Spain on October 11, 2018. It was in a friendly game against Wales, which Spain won 4–1.
