Marcus Mumford (born January 31, 1987) is a talented singer, songwriter, and musician. He was born in America but is also British. Most people know him as the lead singer of the popular folk band Mumford & Sons. He plays many instruments for the band, like guitar, drums, and the mandolin. He is married to actress Carey Mulligan, and they have three children.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Marcus was born in Yorba Linda, California, on January 31, 1987. His parents, John and Eleanor Mumford, were English. Because of this, Marcus has citizenship in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
His family moved back to the UK when he was only six months old. He grew up in Wimbledon, London. He went to King's College School in Wimbledon, where he met Ben Lovett, who would later become a bandmate. After his first year at the University of Edinburgh, Marcus returned to London to focus on his music. There, he worked on Mumford & Sons' first album, Sigh No More.
Marcus started his music career playing drums for singer Laura Marling on tour. The other members of Mumford & Sons also toured with her. By playing gigs and trying out his own songs, they decided to form their band in 2007.
In December 2012, Forbes magazine included Marcus in their "30 Under 30" list of music stars. This list celebrates young people who are successful and hardworking.

Collaborations and Soundtracks
In 2013, Marcus sang a cover of "Dink's Song" with Oscar Isaac for the movie Inside Llewyn Davis.
He was also part of the 2014 album Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes. On this album, he worked with artists like Elvis Costello and Rhiannon Giddens. Marcus helped write several songs for this album, including "Kansas City" and "When I Get My Hands on You."
Mumford & Sons Albums
Mumford & Sons released their third album, Wilder Mind, on May 4, 2015. Their fourth album, Delta, came out on November 16, 2018. It featured other artists like Maggie Rogers.
Solo Music Career
On July 12, 2022, Marcus announced his first solo album, Self-Titled. This album was released in September 2022. It includes a song called "Cannibal", which Marcus wrote about his personal challenges. The famous director Steven Spielberg even directed the music video for "Cannibal."
Production Work
Besides singing and writing, Marcus has also worked as a record producer.
- In 2014, he produced Hold Fast by Christian Letts. He also helped write four songs on that album.
- In 2016, Marcus produced the album Gamble for a Rose for the musician King Charles.
Personal Life
In April 2012, Marcus married actress Carey Mulligan in Somerset, England. They were childhood pen pals and reconnected as adults. They got married shortly after working together on the movie Inside Llewyn Davis. They now have three children.
Marcus is a fan of the football team AFC Wimbledon.
