Mariara is a city in Carabobo State, Venezuela. It is the main town of the Diego Ibarra Municipality. A bishop named Mariano Martí officially started the city on December 3, 1781.
History
When Europeans first arrived in this region in the mid-1500s, they found Carib tribes living there. A Spanish explorer named Vicente Díaz explored the Mariara area around 1555. He had some battles with the Native Americans living there.
During the time of the Colony, the Tovar family owned large farms in Mariara. Bishop Mariano Martí officially founded Mariara on December 3, 1781. A famous explorer, Alexander von Humboldt, visited the city in 1800.
In 1810, the local government of Valencia was created. It included nine regions, and Mariara was one of them. The other regions were Valencia, Los Guayos, Puerto Cabello, Ocumare de la Costa, Turmero, Guacara, Güigüe, and Maracay.
