How to Play Mario Golf
In Mario Golf, you get to pick from many popular characters. You can play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Wario, and even some new characters made just for the game.
Choosing Your Course
After picking your character, you choose from several golf courses. These courses are special because they have features inspired by the Nintendo universe. Imagine playing golf in a world filled with Mario's adventures!
Simple Yet Deep Gameplay
Mario Golf is designed to be easy to pick up and play. You don't need to know all the complicated rules of real golf. However, the game still has many cool details that affect your shots. Things like wind strength and direction (shown by a Boo!), rain, and even your character's unique skills can change how your ball flies. You can also add spin to the ball or use the shape of the land to your advantage.
Exciting Game Modes
Besides regular golf, Mario Golf offers a variety of fun ways to play:
- Speed Golf: Race against time to finish the course quickly.
- Ring Shot: Aim your ball through rings to score points.
- Mini Golf: Enjoy smaller, trickier courses.
- Skins Match: A competitive mode where players win "skins" for each hole.
All the characters in the game have their own voices. They can even comment on other players' shots, which adds to the fun!
Connecting Game Boy Color and Nintendo 64
A special device called the Transfer Pak allowed players to connect their Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color versions of Mario Golf. This meant you could share characters and game data between the two systems. Characters from the GBC version could even earn experience points with each round they played, making them better golfers!
Making the Game: Development Story
Nintendo first started working on a golf game for the Nintendo 64. It was simply called Golf. Later, they asked Camelot Software Planning to help make a role-playing game. But Camelot wanted to start with something simpler to get used to the Nintendo 64.
Nintendo was very impressed with Camelot's early golf game idea. So impressed, in fact, that they stopped their own golf game project. Instead, they asked Camelot to develop Mario Golf 64. This new golf game was first announced in a magazine called The 64Dream in February 1999.
