Mark Valentino Ingram Sr. was born on August 23, 1965. He is a former professional football player from the United States. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL).
Mark Ingram Sr. played for several teams during his career. These included the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, and Philadelphia Eagles. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Michigan State Spartans. He is also the father of Mark Ingram II, who is a famous football player himself. Mark Ingram II won the Heisman Trophy in 2009.
Mark Ingram Sr.'s Early Life and College Football
Mark Ingram Sr. grew up in Flint, Michigan. He played high school football at Flint Northwestern High School. In high school, he played as a quarterback. He even played alongside Andre Rison, who was a halfback at the time.
After high school, Ingram went on to play college football. He attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. While at Michigan State, he changed his position. He became a wide receiver, and he kept this position throughout his college and professional career.
Mark Ingram Sr.'s Professional Football Career
The New York Giants chose Mark Ingram Sr. in the first round of the 1987 NFL draft. He was the 28th player picked overall.
One of his most famous moments happened in Super Bowl XXV. In that game, he made a very important play. He managed to get past five Buffalo Bills defenders to gain a crucial first down. This helped the Giants continue a long drive that led to a touchdown. He was the Giants' best receiver in that game, catching five passes for 77 yards. The Giants won Super Bowl XXV.
Later, when he played for the Miami Dolphins, he had another memorable game. He caught four touchdown passes from quarterback Dan Marino against the New York Jets. One of these touchdowns was the game-winning play. Marino tricked the Jets' defense by pretending to stop the clock. Instead, he threw a short pass to Ingram, who was open in the end zone.
Mark Ingram Sr. retired from playing professional football after the 1996 season.
Mark Ingram Sr.'s Family Life
Mark Ingram Sr. has a son named Mark Ingram II. His son also became a very successful football player. Mark Ingram II played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He won the prestigious Heisman Trophy in 2009.
In 2011, Mark Ingram II was drafted into the NFL by the New Orleans Saints. He became one of the Saints' best players. He is currently the second all-time leader in rushing yards for the New Orleans Saints.
