Marko Grujić is a professional footballer from Serbia. He was born on April 13, 1996. Marko plays as a midfielder for the club Porto in Portugal. He also plays for the Serbian national team.
Marko grew up in Belgrade, his hometown. He started his football journey in the youth system of Red Star Belgrade. He then joined their main team. He made his first professional appearance in 2013. In his last season with Red Star, he helped them win the Serbian SuperLiga title. After that, he moved to the English club Liverpool. In 2021, after five years with Liverpool, he joined the Portuguese club Porto.
Marko has played for Serbia at many youth levels, starting from the under-16 team. He made his debut for the senior Serbian national team in May 2016. He was also part of the Serbian team that won the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup!

Club Football Journey
Starting at Red Star Belgrade
Marko Grujić grew up in Belgrade, which is now in Serbia. He learned to play football at Red Star Belgrade. He went through all their youth teams and was even the captain of his age group. He played his first professional game for Red Star on May 26, 2013. This was a Serbian SuperLiga match against Vojvodina.
On May 17, 2015, Marko signed a new contract with Red Star. He scored his first goal for the senior team on September 26, 2015. This was in a 2–0 win against Novi Pazar. He also helped set up another goal in that game. Marko was part of a special time for Red Star. The club won 19 games in a row, which was a new record! They finished the first half of the season without losing any games.
Time with Liverpool
Many big European teams noticed Marko in 2015. These included Liverpool, Internazionale, Juventus, Chelsea, and Milan. The manager of Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp, even called Marko himself to convince him to join. On January 6, 2016, it was confirmed that Marko joined Premier League club Liverpool. He signed a five-year deal.
After joining Liverpool, Marko was immediately loaned back to Red Star. He played for them until the end of the season. During this time, he helped Red Star win the Serbian SuperLiga title. Marko played in 29 games that season, scoring 6 goals and making 7 assists. He was chosen for the SuperLiga Team of the Year. On August 20, 2016, Marko made his Premier League debut for Liverpool.
Loan to Cardiff City
On January 17, 2018, Marko joined Championship team Cardiff City. This was a loan deal for the rest of the 2017–18 season. He played his first game for Cardiff three days later. Marko scored his first goal for Cardiff on March 6, 2018. It was in a 2–1 home win against Barnsley.
Loan to Hertha BSC
On August 19, 2018, Marko went on loan to Bundesliga club Hertha BSC for one year. He scored his first goal for them on December 8. It was the only goal in a 1–0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Hertha's coach, Pal Dardai, praised Marko a lot. On July 1, 2019, his loan to Hertha was extended for a second season.
Back at Liverpool
On September 25, 2020, Marko played for Liverpool in an EFL Cup game against Lincoln. Liverpool won 7–2, and Marko scored a goal in that match.
Moving to Porto
On October 6, 2020, Marko joined the Portuguese club Porto on a loan for the season. On July 20, 2021, Porto made his move permanent. This means he officially became a full-time player for Porto.
Playing for Serbia
Marko Grujić has played for Serbia at all youth levels. This includes teams from under-16 to under-21. He was also part of the Serbian team that won the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand.
In May 2016, Marko played his first game for the senior Serbian national team. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 win against Cyprus. In June 2018, he was chosen for Serbia's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any games during that tournament. In November 2022, he was again selected for Serbia's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He played in a group stage match against Cameroon.

Marko Grujić is tall, standing at 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 meters). He is known for being comfortable with the ball and having a good range of passing. People have called him the "new Matić" because he looks and plays similarly to another Serbian defensive midfielder, Nemanja Matić.
