Marly is a town in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland. It's located in the Sarine district. While its German name is Mertenlach, this name is not used much anymore. Marly became one town in 1970 when Marly-le-Grand and Marly-le-Petit joined together. Later, in 1976, the village of Chésalles also became part of Marly.

Marly covers an area of about 7.7 square kilometers (about 3 square miles). A big part of this land, about 35%, is used for farming. Forests cover almost 30% of the area.
About 31% of Marly's land is developed with buildings and roads. This includes homes, factories, and streets. A small part, about 4%, is made up of rivers and lakes.
Marly is located about 5 kilometers (3 miles) south of Fribourg. It sits right on the Gérine river. Marly is known as an industrial town and an important center for the region. It includes the villages of Marly-le Grand, Marly-le Petit, and Chésalles.
Understanding Marly's Coat of Arms
A coat of arms is like a special symbol for a town. Marly's coat of arms has a red background. It shows a blue wavy stripe, which represents the Gérine river that flows through the town.
On top of this, there's a knight in silver armor. He holds a pike (a long spear) and has a sword at his side. In the top left corner, there are three golden alder-tree leaves joined together. The coat of arms was updated in 1991 to show that the different villages had joined to form one Marly.
