Marta Bassino was born in Cuneo, a city in the Piedmont region of Italy. She grew up and lives in Borgo San Dalmazzo.

Marta showed her skiing talent early on. At the Junior World Championships in 2014, she won a gold medal in the giant slalom. This amazing win happened right on her eighteenth birthday! Because she won, she got to compete in the World Cup finals that same year. This was her very first time competing in a World Cup event. The next season was her first full season on the World Cup circuit.

Marta's Amazing Skiing Career: World Cup Wins and Medals

Marta Bassino has achieved many great things in her skiing career.

First Podiums and Wins

In October 2016, Marta earned her first World Cup podium finish. She came in third place in the giant slalom race in Sölden, Austria. She repeated this third-place finish two more times that season, in Kronplatz, Italy, and Aspen, USA. In Aspen, she even shared the podium with her Italian teammates Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia.

Marta got her first World Cup victory in November 2019. She won a giant slalom race at Killington, USA. In that same year, she became the first Italian skier to reach the podium (finish in the top three) in five different skiing events in one season!

World Championships and Olympic Games

Marta has also competed in major international events like the World Championships and the Winter Olympics.

At her first World Championships in 2015, she didn't finish the giant slalom race. In 2017, she placed eleventh in giant slalom.

Marta made her Olympic debut at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. She finished fifth in the giant slalom and tenth in the combined event.

In 2019 in Åre, Sweden, Marta won a bronze medal in the team event. She also finished 13th in both the giant slalom and combined races.

Winning the Crystal Globe

The 2020–21 season was a huge success for Marta. She won four of the first five giant slalom races and finished third in another. On March 7, 2021, she won the prestigious World Cup crystal globe for the giant slalom discipline. This award goes to the skier who earns the most points in a specific discipline over the entire season.

At the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, Marta won a gold medal in the parallel giant slalom event. She shared this gold medal with Austria's Katharina Liensberger. She was a favorite to win the giant slalom race, but she finished 13th.

In the 2023 World Championships in Méribel, France, Marta won another gold medal, this time in the Super-G event.
