Early Life and Art Studies
Marta Pan was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1923. From a young age, she loved art. She decided to study art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Budapest. This is a famous art school.
Creating Unique Sculptures
Pan's sculptures are special because they focus on balance and shapes. She often made her art to fit perfectly with its surroundings. This is called "site-specific" art. In 1946, Pan moved to Paris, France. There, she met other famous artists like Constantin Brâncuși and Fernand Léger.
In 1952, she married André Wogenscky. He was an assistant to the famous architect Le Corbusier. Le Corbusier's building designs greatly influenced Pan's early sculptures.
Movable Art and Dance
In 1956, Marta Pan created a sculpture called Le Teck. This artwork had two parts that could move. The famous dancer and choreographer Maurice Béjart was inspired by it. He created a ballet (a type of dance show) also called Le Teck. This ballet was first performed on the roof of Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation building in Marseille, France.
Until 1960, many of Pan's sculptures were made this way. They had two parts, and one part could be moved. This changed how the artwork looked. In 1990, she made a "floating sculpture" in Italy. It was for the Gori collection at Fattoria di Celle.
