Mattias Klum (born February 10, 1968, in Uppsala, Sweden) is a well-known Swedish photographer and filmmaker. He works on projects about nature and different cultures. Mattias has been a full-time photographer since 1986. He also started making films and TV shows in 1994.
Mattias Klum shows us animals, plants, and beautiful natural places. He also explores various cultures through his articles, books, films, and exhibitions. His work helps people learn more about our planet.
His wildlife documentaries have been shown all over the world. His photos have appeared in famous magazines like National Geographic, Geo, and Stern. He has also been featured in the New York Times.
In 1997, National Geographic Magazine published Mattias Klum's photos for the first time. He was the first Swede to have his work on the cover! He was also one of their youngest contributors. Since then, he has created many articles and twelve cover stories for the magazine. Some of these include "Malaysia's Secret Realm" and "Asia's Last Lions."
Mattias Klum's photos have been shown in special exhibitions in many countries. These include the US, Sweden, Japan, and Great Britain. He has also published twelve books. Five of these are available in English, like Exploring the Rainforest and The Human Quest.
In 2007, Mattias helped start a publishing company called Tierra Grande Publishing. He also helped create the Terra Magna Foundation, which raises money for good causes. He worked on Expeditionsverige.se (Expedition Sweden). This was a five-year project about Sweden and the Baltic Sea. He has also worked with Prince Carl Philip of Sweden.
His book, The Human Quest: Prospering Within Planetary Boundaries, was written with scientist Johan Rockström. Former President Bill Clinton wrote the introduction for this book.
In 2013, Mattias Klum's latest book, "Världar av Liv," was published. That same year, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Stockholm University. He was also named an ambassador for WWF, the World Wildlife Fund.
