Mauro Damián Rosales (born February 24, 1981) is a former professional football player from Argentina. He played as an attacking midfielder, which means he helped both defend and attack. Mauro was known for his speed and his great ability to pass the ball accurately to his teammates, especially with crosses. He won a gold medal with the Argentina team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Mauro's Football Journey

Starting in Argentina

Mauro Rosales began his football career with a team called Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. His excellent playing skills at Newell's Old Boys caught the attention of big European clubs.

Playing in Europe with Ajax

In 2004, Mauro moved to the Netherlands to join Ajax, a very famous football club. While playing for Ajax, he appeared in 63 league matches and scored 6 goals.

Back to Argentina with River Plate

In 2007, Rosales left Ajax and returned to Argentina. He joined River Plate, another well-known team. He was part of the squad that won the Clausura 2008 tournament. This was a big win for the club, as it was their first title in four years.

Adventures in Major League Soccer (MLS)

In 2011, Mauro Rosales moved to the United States to play for Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer. He quickly became a key player for the team.

Success with Seattle Sounders FC

During his first season with Seattle, Mauro scored 5 goals and helped his teammates score 13 times. These 13 assists set a new club record for the most assists by one player in a single season. Because of his great performance, Mauro won the MLS Newcomer of the Year Award in 2011. He played for Seattle for three years, scoring 12 goals and making 34 assists in league games. He also helped the team win the 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Moving to Other MLS Teams

After Seattle, Mauro played for a few other MLS teams. In 2014, he joined Chivas USA. Later that year, he was traded to Vancouver Whitecaps FC. He played 35 games for the Whitecaps, scoring one goal and assisting in six others. In 2016, he moved to FC Dallas.

Playing for His Country

Mauro Rosales also had a successful international career playing for Argentina.

  • He was part of the Argentina U20 national team that won the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship.
  • In 2004, he won a gold medal with the Argentina national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
  • Also in 2004, he helped the Argentina squad reach the finals of the Copa América, where they finished as runners-up.

In March 2012, Mauro Rosales received his U.S. green card. This meant he was considered a "domestic player" for MLS teams, which is important for team rosters.
