Mayodan is a town in Rockingham County, North Carolina, in the United States. It is known for its factories, which include Sturm, Ruger & Co. (making firearms) and Bridgestone Aircraft Tire (making airplane tires). In the past, it was also home to a large textile mill operated by Washington Mills Company.
The town's name comes from two rivers that meet nearby: the Mayo River and the Dan River. According to Ripley's Believe It or Not!, Mayodan is the only town in the world with this exact name.

History of Mayodan
Mayodan started as a "mill town" when a cotton mill was built there in 1892. The mill began its operations in April 1896. This mill was very important to the town's growth.
The Washington Mills-Mayodan Plant, which was part of this early history, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. This means it is recognized as an important historical site.

As its name suggests, Mayodan is found close to where the Mayo River and the Dan River join together.
