Early Settlers and the Railroad
Around 1870, the first German settlers came to the area where McQueeney is now. A railroad, the Galveston, Harrisburg & San Antonio, was built through the area in 1876. The train stop was first called "Hilda."
In 1900, a local businessman named C. F. Blumberg built a general store east of the train stop. He wanted the railroad to move the stop closer to his store. Blumberg decided to call his new store's location "McQueeney." He chose this name to honor the local railroad superintendent, a person in charge of the railroad. Even though the railroad didn't move the stop, the post office that opened in 1900 was named McQueeney.
